SUMMARY
Specifications Manager is responsible for managing daily processes (specifications package backlog, throughout, spec reviews, inquiries, recertification’s, etc.) in a fast paced, high volume, unionized, manufacturing environment. The Specifications Manager oversees maintenance of specification documents, including internal specification documents and management of current revisions of customer and society specifications. Leads QSS improvements to specifications process by reviewing & approving tickets, and assigning testing resources.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Review upfront contract and translate them into specification packages (WOMs) that will flow down to the shops.
• Check for capabilities, consulting with appropriate product engineers and operations managers, as needed.
• Resolve, communicate and escalate timing concerns that may jeopardize plant production or create excess and obsolete material.
• Partner with Sales and customers to facilitate resolution on exceptions to customer requirements and items outside of current mill capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• B.S. in Materials, Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering. M.S. a plus.
• Minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience in heavy manufacturing with a background in metals a plus.
• Command of industry quality specifications and customer specifications/requirements.
• Comprehensive understanding of melting, rolling, casting, forging, extruding, and other metal forming practices, as well as thermal & chemical processing, nondestructive testing and material laboratory testing.
• Previous manufacturing supervisory experience.
SPECIAL SKILLS
• Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Good project planning skills (establish timelines, open issues list, progress tracking matrices, etc.).
• Self-starter, energetic, able to work with minimal supervision after initial orientation.
• Progressive leadership/technical experience in the metals processing industry.
• Strong leadership qualities, including strength in team building; envisioning and articulating strategy; negotiating with/influencing others; and passionately owing/driving to achieve results.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
