Aerotek is currently working with on of our clients to identify welders and aluminum welders in the Mobile, AL area. 3 + years experience required.

Responsibilities

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties in a safe manner
  • Ability to work in a team environment focusing on meeting Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost standards
  • Ability to weld MIG (Gas Metal Arc Welding), and TIG (Tungsten Metal Arc Welding), Aluminum (required) and Stainless (required)
  • Perform welding in accordance with proper work station procedures
  • Performs all types x-ray quality welds and welding using standard automatic, tig, flux core, fusion welding & plasma torch
  • Perform rigging operations as necessary, observe welding operations closely adjusting equipment to maintain proper weld condition
  • Have working knowledge of weld procedural requirements and safety requirements for the accomplishment of tasks
  • Familiar with filler wire selection and acceptable weld preparation techniques
  • Performs arc, plasma arc and oxxy-acetylene cutting on all metals as required
  • Must understand process parameter settings; amperages, voltages, pre-heat, inter-pass temperatures and post heat requirements
  • Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts such as plates, fittings, frames; bracing them in position for welding
  • Maintain a clean work area
  • Complete paperwork as required
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or team lead

Critical Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Must be capable of achieving all required core welding certifications within 30 days
  • Must have the ability and skill to certify on the type of welding
  • Must have the ability to work and perform job duties according to verbal or written instructions or by following drawings or diagrams
  • Must be able to perform shop math calculations (including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, figuring angles, converting fractions/decimals, etc.)
  • Must be knowledgeable of and capable of performing repairs in an effective, efficient and timely manner according to standard welding practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to measure, read, write and document work
  • Ability to sustain a steady work pace over an entire work day
  • Ability to tolerate confined spaces for extended periods of time

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching and reaching
  • Must be capable of recurring lifting or handling of heavy items or similar activities from ground level to above the head with weights of up to 30 pounds throughout the work shift

Environmental/Atmospheric Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to dust, fumes and odors
  • Exposure to solvent and chemicals
  • Other risks associated with working around machines and tools

Desired Experience

  • Required to obtain weld certification to AWS/ANSI standards
  • Basic Math skills
  • Must have a firm understanding of volts and amps and be able to adjust accordingly
  • Basic data entry skills for maintenance breakdown calls
  • Capability to read and interpret blueprints, work order instructions; weld symbols, and operate required tools involved in position
  • Good problem solving skills, safety practices and attention to quality
  • Must understand and follow the quality policy and procedures - detect defects
  • Must follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Must be able to handle small parts
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Able to consistently maintain production averages at or above the expected standards
  • Ability to train, coordinate, communicate effectively with all departments
  • 6 months of previous material handling experience or equivalent knowledge
  • 2+ years welding experience in a manufacturing environment
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Certificate or undergraduate degree from a technical school, vocational school or community college preferred
