Job Description:

The primary responsibility is to direct and manage the maintenance of the golf course greens, tees, fairways, and bunkers. Will embrace the Benchmark culture mosaic, and will be responsible for providing our guests and members the best golf course playing conditions possible on a daily basis.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, & WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Associates or bachelor’s Degree in Turf Grass Management or Two-(2) Year certificate is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience with golf course operations.
  • Minimum of two (2) years turf management experience.
  • Management and organizational skills.
  • Computer knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on all levels.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Must have NYS Pesticide Applicator's License.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Plan, organize, and direct the maintenance of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.
  • Supervise the planting and cultural practices involved in growing various turf grasses, trees, and ornamental plants.
  • Knowledge of use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in golf course construction and maintenance work.
  • Ensures the proper care and cultivation of shrubs, trees and flowers to include pruning, trimming and spraying. Applies necessary pesticides, fertilizers, fungicides and insecticides to treat the course.
  • Manages hotels landscaping and interior plant program.
  • Mixes and sprays fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides onto grass, shrubs and trees using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders
  • Knowledge of safe use, mixing and application of chemicals and commercial products.
  • Ability to anticipate personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to golf course maintenance and repair assignments.
  • Ability and knowledge to lay out irrigation patterns, drainage patterns, construct tees and/or greens.
  • Provides proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters and other ground features
  • Supervise the efficient operation of the equipment repair shop. Maintains and manages repairs of grounds tools and equipment
  • Train, motivate, and effectively direct the work of employees in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Administers and enforces employee safety programs.
  • Procure supplies and materials within budget limitations
  • Keep all records of annual maintenance activities and costs.
  • Prepare and present annual golf course maintenance budget.
  • Communicate on a consistent basis with the Head Golf Professional to foster a professional and positive relationship with the entire Golf Operations staff.
  • Maintain an operating manual, including policies and procedures, for all Golf Maintenance staff.
  • Provide guest service to the level of results in the targeted rate.
  • Remain current on all industry changes and trends for the golf industry, locally and nationally. Knowledge of the game of golf, golf rules and methods of play.
