PURPOSE

PURPOSE
- Organize, review, and establish priorities for all maintenance jobs in the assigned craft/s as requested by Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and Planning.
- Evaluate preventive maintenance practices on critical equipment and modify or add new practices and procedures as necessary to more effectively use hourly labor and improve equipment uptime.
- Provide direction and guidance for Maintenance Supervisors working under your direct supervision
- Provide technical expertise for equipment troubleshooting, repair, and equipment enhancements, and provide training to continually improve skill level of work force.
- Work closely with Operations and Safety Departments to ensure compliance with all applicable company and governmental standards and policies.
- Develop, monitor, and evaluate departmental labor and material costs relating to department budgets and spare parts inventories.
- Work within and outside of department to improve equipment reliability and upgrade/install new equipment

CHALLENGES:
- This position reports directly to the Maintenance Superintendent or Maintenance Manager
- Direct/provide leadership to assigned supervisor/s and craft/s to improve skill level, reduce equipment downtime, maintain budgets, and meet applicable company and governmental standards/policies.
- Develop and write work instructions, operating procedures, and preventive maintenance checks to maintain a high level of equipment integrity.
- Work with Planners and outside Contractors to install new equipment and improve reliability
- Maintain reasonable and effective communications and working relationships with appropriate Production, Purchasing, Engineering, Accounting, MIS, Labor Relations, and Union representatives.

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Pass internal Mechanical Test during interview process
- Minimum of Associate Degree or 10 years of Maintenance plant experience with at least 5 years in Maintenance supervision
- At least 3 years in Heavy Industry
- Ability to communicate with and motivate personnel in a union environment.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
- Strong Hydraulic knowledge
- Some electrical knowledge/experience preferred but not required
- Strong overall Mechanical skills with ability to train employees if needed
- Overhead crane maintenance experience preferred
- Good knowledge of maintenance and engineering procedures, policies, proper work practices.
- Good understanding of budgets and accounting principles
- Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization
- Computer literate
- Strong technical expertise in assigned area with good understanding of production operations and customer requirements.
