PRINCIPAL PURPOSE:

This position is the manager of all activities at the Bridgeton site. Organizes and directs the activities of site engineering, production, maintenance, safety, quality, and supporting services to meet the business commitments of the Corporation. This position is also responsible for maintaining compliance in Environmental, Safety and Health. Provides both short-term tactical plans and long term strategic plans to the Flavors and Powder business groups. Responsible for the cost effective use of resources to meet the needs of the businesses. All functions will be accomplished safely, timely, economically and in compliance with GMP and regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Follows and enforces all safety policies and procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards. Works to advance and promote the safety culture of the site.
  2. Accountable for the safety performance of the entire plant population and any outside contractors or visitors.
  3. Responsible for Safety, Health and regulatory programs on site in partnership with the site EH&S Coordinator and Corporate EH&S leadership.
  4. Responsible for environmental programs on site and coordinating activities with Corporate EH&S resources.
  5. Directs the proper hiring and training of all employees with the EH&S Coordinator.
  6. Maintains a positive and healthy relationship with the community and regulatory agencies.
  7. Responsible for food safety working in close coordination with site Quality Control Supervisor and Quality Assurance Manager.
  8. Responsible for verifying the Director of Quality has been notified of any incident affecting food safety.
  9. Coordinates activities with site QC Manager, ensures that all food products are manufactured in accordance with industry and regulatory standards for quality and food safety.
  10. Collaborate with the R&D and Commercial teams during production scale-up efforts, production validation, and customer trials.
  11. Ensures that staff manages quality in all transactions of production and services to customers, company and plant specifications.
  12. Accountable for security of the Bridgeton facilities.
  13. Manages all expenditures on the Bridgeton Site including expense and capital. Responsible for managing the overall operation costs, capital expenditures, and budgets. This includes forecasting and meeting current budget commitments.
  14. Accountable for the overall management of the organization at the Bridgeton facility to accomplish the plants and companys policy by continuously improving the organizations capabilities.
  15. Supervises and leads the activities of direct reports and supporting groups; Operations Manager, EHS Coordinator, Production Supervisors, Plant Engineers, Shipping and Receiving Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor.
  16. Directs and approves production schedules in departments to ensure that quotas are met and finished goods inventories and shipments are maintained at the proper level.
  17. Directs planning and measuring activities of production and process improvements both financially and non-financially. Set budgets by continually setting improved targets over the results and according to the business level requirements. Communicates the score card to all employees.
  18. Coordinates and supervises the implementation process for approved capital projects.
  19. Plant Host during customer, regulatory, and investor visits.
  20. Prepares and submits the timely delivery of activity and monthly reports to keep the VP of Operations and others informed about the status of plant activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

BS degree in engineering, business or manufacturing discipline. Solid background/work experience in manufacturing (7+ years) and at least 5 years in Food, Dietary Supplement, Medical Foods, or Pharmaceutical. A minimum of 5 years experience in supervising the work of and coaching others.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

Work is mostly sedentary but intermittently involves climbing, standing, walking, balance and coordination when checking out sites or equipment. Travel is required on specific assignments.

VISUAL ACTIVITY:

Operates various equipment such as computers, drafting equipment and instruments involving scientific meters and measuring devices. Must be able to distinguish colors.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Works mostly inside in an office environment, but periodically outside subject to changes in various weather conditions and temperatures. Will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, respirators, gloves and other protective equipment as required by the specific job assignment.
