Aquatics - Deck Supervisor
Part Time
Kirkwood Family YMCA
Age Requirements: 18+ Years of Age
Shifts: Mon/Wed 5:00-7:45pm & Saturday 9:30am-12pm
Requirements
Education: Some high school or equivalent.
Experience: One year as a swim instructor with 50 hours or more of instructing
Special skills, Licenses, Certifications or Equipment:

He/she will follow all guidelines as established in the YMCA Aquatic Program Model.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Must be able to effectively communicate with staff, volunteers, and parents of program participants
- Must have the ability to maintain professional, respectful, positive attitude toward all members and co-workers.
- Requires the ability to supervise, train and evaluate performance of class participants and instructors.
- Must have good organizational and planning skills and sound judgment
- Aid in member retention by being knowledgeable, caring, and friendly to all members.
- Attend in-services once a month.
- Serves as a liaison to parents.
- Is readily available on the pool deck to answer questions and to watch series swim
- Makes sure classes start and end on time.
- Ensures the safe return up of all participants to custodial adult at the end of class.
- Ensures all safety requirements are followed by staff during shift.
- Prepares class rosters and maintain originals for record keeping.
- Completes Aquatic Quick Checks and Deck Supervisor Report every work shift.
- Builds small communities among staff members.
- Provides encouragement and constructive criticism for all aquatic staff to improve staff performances.
- Ensures all guards receives one 15-minute break for every two hours they are on duty.
- Serves as effective communicator for service center by providing aquatic department program information.
- Reports problems, complaints, or concerns of participants to the aquatic cirector in a timely fashion.
- Evaluates all swimmers and places in correct classes based on skill levels.
- Responsible for teaching classes when no substitute is available.
- Develops and is familiar with pool usage schedules for lap and recreation swimmers.
- Responds to program evaluations with action plan in areas to improve programs.
- Maintains instructor-student ratios as set in program model.
- Completes evaluations on swim instructors and discusses with aquatic leadership.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
