POSITION PURPOSE:

Restaurant servers work within a food and beverage outlet. An overview of this position is as follows – greeting and servicing customers, describing items on the menu (ingredients used along with how it is prepared, cooked and served), taking food and beverage orders, serving and checking back with customers during the meal for anyadditional needs along with providing checks and taking payments. The restaurant server must be able to work with other restaurant employees to present an enjoyable dining experience to their customers.Essential Elements:

  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to utilize standard restaurant equipment , for example : Coffee and beverage machines.
  • Knowledgeable of alcoholic drink contents and components
  • Ability to effectively utilize point of sale equipment.
  • Ability to stand and walk continuously.
  • Ability to bend, squat and reach.
  • Ability to move freely within lobby bar area.
  • Ability to lift and carry a server tray weighing approximately 35-50 pounds in the overhand style of service.
  • Ability to push and/or pull carts weighing approximately 50-75lbs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with guests and other employees.
  • Ability to interact with guests and other employees in a courteous, empathetic and discreet manner.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic, including use of percentages.
  • Ability to handle cash and credit transactions.
  • Ability to read and write effectively
  • Ability to work with chemicals, for example: cleaners and disinfectants.
  • Ability to work in temperature extremes, including handling hot utensils and equipment.

JOB TASKS

  • Service responsibilities include, but are not limited to - taking customer orders, serving food and beverages, preparing itemized checks, and accepting payments.
  • Additional duties, include escorting guests to tables, serving customers seated at counters, setting up and clearing tables, or operating a point of sale system.
  • Check the identification of customers to ensure they meet the minimum age requirement for the purchase of alcohol products.
  • Professionalism – to include, but not limited to: professional in attire, communication, and presentation
  • Must be able to learn and describe food proficiently; be familiar with the menu, food preparation, taste, and if special requests are allowed; be informed about specials and special events
  • Side Work – includes, but not limited to – checking of assigned station for cleanliness and completeness; complete side duties assigned to your station
  • Pre-Meal - Attend daily pre-shift meetings; be knowledgeable of all specials for the day (preparation, spices, sauces and preparation time); be knowledgeable of desserts and wines; note any large groups reserved in your station; note any special requests of food preparations, allergies, birthdays, anniversaries, A&P charges and VIP parties assigned to the station
  • During Meal Service - Ensure all guests are greeted within one minute of seating in a timely, friendly and professional manner; serve water to the newly arrived party, beverages to include wine lists or soft beverages; service of cocktails/wine/soft drinks
  • Upselling - suggest appetizers; wine pairings, desserts, etc.
  • Post-Shift - As your station is closed, reset all your tables and complete side work for the station; prepare sales and tips report; balance sales
  • Provide service in accordance with the performance standards and in keeping with the 4 Diamond experience
  • Assist in other areas of the department as needed, such as, room service or seating guests
  • Attend monthly meetings and training as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned

  • Ability to work a varied & flexible schedule understanding that the hotel is operating 24 hours a 365 days of the year including weekend and holidays.

 

Qualification Standards
Education:
Required:

High school degree; preferred – some higher educationCertifications:
Be TIPS certified within (60) days of acquiring the Cocktail Server position. CPR Training.
Allergen Awareness Training.
Must meet any city, county, state or other legal minimum age requirement to sell/serve alcoholic beverages.

Experience:

Required: minimum of 2 years experience as a restaurant server.
Preferred: minimum of 2 years hotel experienceSpecial Qualifications:
