Responsibilities
· The core role of the Electronics/Fiber Optic Production Test Technician is to be responsible for the assembly, test and calibration of optical test instruments in the company product range to the required schedule while maintaining quality standards.
· Troubleshooting and repair of optical test instruments.
· Other activities will include supporting Service and on occasion Development.
Key Accountabilities
· Assemble, test and calibrate PCB assembly and product (both electronic and optical) following the documentation and using the equipment provided.
· Where required, to complete PCB assembly using IPC soldering principles.
· Programming PCB assemblies and product with firmware and software.
· To complete final quality checks and save/store any relevant data.
· To diagnose and resolve any problems (troubleshoot) that are identified during the production and testing process including replacing faulty components and reworking manufacturing defects.
· To gain efficiencies by improving processes and standardising reporting, removing friction where possible.
· To repair and calibrate customers equipment.
· Work with engineering to improve product design and performance.
· To support the new product development process as required where production allows.
· Responsible for their working environment including ESD compliance.
· To train new production staff.
· To ensure that all activities are undertaken and controlled in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS).
· Flexibility to perform any other tasks as required for the business.
Person Specification
Education
Essential
Preferable
Certified Production Technician (CPT) or equivalent
High School Diploma
Associates degree in electronics/optical technology or equivalent
Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Computer Engineering Technology or equivalent
Work Experience
Essential
Preferable
Minimum of 1 semester internship in electro-optic design technology or equivalent experience in a full-time role
Experience of process improvement/LEAN principles/Six Sigma, 80/20 etc.
Experience with electrical and optical test and measurement i.e. optical power meter, light source, oscilloscope
Experience with the manufacture of medium volume SMT/PTH electronic assembly and modern production processes
Experience with surface mount and plated through hole soldering to IPC standard.
Electronics procurement/purchasing in a global environment to quality and cost requirements
Experience with optical and fiber optic technologies – fusion splicing
Working ERP knowledge
An understanding of circuit schematics & troubleshooting methods
Experience in documenting workload and processes
Experience of working in an environment where a physical / technical product is at the core of the business
Professional skills and aptitude

Soldering skills, including surface mount to IPC-A-610/ PCB assembly
