New River Experience Director

Duties & Responsibilities● Comfortable with 5 days paddling/camping in remote setting without running water/electricity
● Welcome guests and conduct a gear shakedown water experience in the New River Gorge
● Pack and load food / equipment in trucks and boats
● Provide whitewater kayaking instruction
● Ensure guest safety and provide medical care as needed
● Interpret the natural and cultural history of the New River Gorge
● Provide and participate in evening programming
● Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe working area
● Other duties or projects as assigned by SBR leadership
● Abide by policies and procedure outlined in the SBR staff handbook
Qualifications & Training● 18 years of age or older
● Wilderness First Aid & Swiftwater Rescue (training provided)
● Confident Swimmer
● Position is contingent on ability to pass river guide and swiftwater rescue training. You may be reassigned to other jobs if you do not pass the training courses.
● Ability to use Microsoft Teams daily for work related communication and coordination
● Be or become a registered member of Scouting America
Performance Results● Provide end of year feedback on ways to improve the program
● Receive positive feedback from customers
● Improved paddling and teaching skills
Physical Requirements● Up to 8 hours a day of either, paddling, swimming, hiking, and the ability to lift 50 lbs.
