The heavy equipment mechanic will inspect, service, and maintain our range of commercial vehicles to heavy-duty construction equipment. As a lead mechanic, you will be responsible for driving to the job site, inspecting engines and equipment, carrying out services, conducting repairs, and providing routine maintenance to the construction fleet.
To ensure success as a heavy equipment mechanic, you must have proven experience working with heavy machinery, be physically fit, and be able to troubleshoot issues on the job site. Ultimately, a top-notch heavy equipment mechanic can repair and service even the biggest machinery with expert care including semi’s, trailers, and mid-sized trucks.
Heavy Equipment Mechanic Responsibilities:- Working at shop or driving to the job site.
- Inspecting trucks, bulldozers, and other heavy equipment for proper performance.
- Diagnosing faults using computerized testing equipment.
- Adjusting equipment and replacing faulty parts.
- Repairing damaged equipment parts.
- Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty vehicles.
- Cleaning and servicing of machine attachments like winches, blades, and all attachments.
- Performing major repair work when necessary.
- Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to management.
- Troubleshoot issues with diesel engines.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and following safety guidelines.
- Maintain equipment maintenance records, DOT Annual Inspections and miscellaneous office paperwork.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license and be insurable.
- Certification as a heavy equipment mechanic or previous work history. References required.
- Minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience with diesel/heavy equipment repairs.
- Proven work experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic.
- Understanding of computer testing technologies.
- Ability to lift heavy machinery.
- Ability to troubleshoot/diagnose wiring/computer problems.
- Extensive knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment.
- Ability to work after-hours if required.
- Good communication skills.
- Must possess own tools and storage for tools to perform basic mechanical duties as assigned.
Ideal candidates will also possess:
- Consistently shows exemplary operating skills.
- Excellent ability to keep work area and equipment clean by disposing of scrap, refuse, and excess material.
- CDL a Plus.
