ABOUT THE ROLE
Holcim US, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has immediate openings for a Screed Operator to support operations within the Asphalt product line at the Clinton Maryland plant location. This position will be responsible for operating a screed, the equipment responsible for leveling asphalt when creating new pavement. In this career, you must have the skills to make the pavement as smooth as possible by applying the asphalt to plan specifications and compensating for uneven depth.

Holcim US, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has immediate openings for a Screed Operator to support operations within the Asphalt product line at the Clinton Maryland plant location. This position will be responsible for operating a screed, the equipment responsible for leveling asphalt when creating new pavement. In this career, you must have the skills to make the pavement as smooth as possible by applying the asphalt to plan specifications and compensating for uneven depth.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
- Operate Screed Equipment on Paving Machines
- Control the screed portion of the paver to spread and level asphalt to the desired width, depth, and slope.
- Monitor and adjust screed settings to achieve a uniform surface with correct thickness and compaction.
- Communicate effectively with the paving crew to maintain consistent material flow and job site safety.
- Perform Daily Equipment Inspections
- Check screed components for proper function, fluid levels, and wear; report or repair any mechanical issues.
- Make On-the-Fly Adjustments, Adjust augers, flow gates, and screed plates during paving to accommodate road curves, grades, and material conditions.
- Ensure that all work meets project specifications and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements.
- Follow All Safety Protocols and Regulations
- Wear proper PPE and adhere to safety practices to prevent accidents and ensure a secure work environment.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- Proven experience operating screed controls on asphalt pavers and working in paving crews
- Ability to adjust screed settings for proper thickness, crown, and cross slope as per job specs.
- Ability to detect imperfections in mat finish and make adjustments to ensure a smooth, consistent surface.
- Basic skills in troubleshooting and maintaining screed components and related paving equipment.
- Able to work closely with paver, roller, and ground crew, communicating effectively to maintain workflow and safety.
- Knowledge of job site safety practices, PPE use, and DOT or municipal paving standards.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
