Anakim Consulting has an immediate need for a Senior/SME level Network Engineer to support a federal government program environment. Qualified candidates will have expertise with network and security architecture and network topology working with Cisco and Juniper technologies.
General responsibilities include:
Apply specialized knowledge in delivering technical requirements and supporting problem-solving within the IT environment that may include network, compute, storage, data services, cybersecurity, and related tools and applications
Job specific responsibilities include:
- Provide system and network optimization design, implementation, testing, and maintenance support for a complex enterprise network
- Resolve Tier 3 escalated network and security support issues
- Conduct network assessments, identify possible vulnerabilities, and recommend/develop solutions
- Lead development of network documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Support continuous service improvements (CSI)
- Actively participate in problem resolution and root cause analysis
- Work with cross-functional teams to plan and execute network upgrades, migrations, and deployments
- Manage vendor relationships, including engagement on incident support activities and ensure timely delivery of program deliverables
- Support monitoring, capacity planning, backup, and recovery of network equipment
- Maintain ongoing evaluation of new trends and technologies and provide input and evaluation to improve service delivery
- Follow and promote industry best practices
- Provide training, mentorship and coaching to junior engineer team, as requested
- Support testing for setup, installation, and transition to operations of service infrastructure devices, NMS and tools
- Serve as a primary COOP capability support engineer
- Support lifecycle sustainment and refresh activities
- Document resolution and track service tickets in designated system
- Develop knowledge management artifacts
- Support on-site schedule
- Support shift work and non-standard hours
Basic requirements include:
- U.S. Citizenship (no dual citizenship)
- Current Public Trust security access or ability to obtain Public Trust
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technology discipline;
- Additional years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree;
- Related master's level education may be considered as a substitute for equivalent experience
- 8-12 years of related experience (depending on education) in a network engineering role supporting lead/senior level responsibilities and providing technical expertise and guidance to others
Job specific requirements include:
- Network engineering experience and expertise including:
- Defense-in-depth principles
- Network and security architecture
- Network topology
- IT device integrity
- Common security elements
- Engineering and troubleshooting networks
- Extensive routing and switching experience in one or more of the following:
- MPLS, VPNs, routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, IS-IS
- Switching protocols such as Spanning Tree Protocol
- VLANs, LLDP, VoIP
- Multicast protocols and emerging network technologies
- Hands-on experience working with industry standards for Cisco, Juniper, and Ciena
- Strong understanding and in-depth knowledge of IP network/subnet addressing
- Experience supporting quick turnaround responses and real-time dataflow issues
- Experience working with network monitoring tools such as NNMi, Spectrum, MRTG, and CACTI
- Demonstrated abilities to communicate network issues with technical teams and discuss issues with technical/non-technical customers and team members
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Experience developing and maintaining technical documents
- Experience conducting analyses and generating related reports
- Experience developing and presenting technical information to senior management, customers, and stakeholders
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Availability to support full on-site schedule
- Ability to support shift work and non-standard hours
Preferred experience:
- Current CCNA, CCNP, or JNCIA certification
- Experience working with Juniper routing, switching and security appliances such as MX, EX, SRX
- Experience with implementation and design concepts for Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)
- Experience with NNMi configuration and maintenance
- Experience working with Splunk
- Experience with NetOps concepts including change management, configuration management and performance management
- Experience working with commercial carrier service providers such as Verizon and AT&T
- Knowledge of Linux
