pstronguResponsibilities:/u/strong/p p /p pPerforms functions of a registered nurse - uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of patients.br/p pSupervise and coordinate care in a manner to ensure that patient needs are provided in an efficient manner.br/p pProvide excellent customer service including patient education.br/p pProfessionalism - applies knowledge to practice through participation in performance improvement activities and application of nursing research.br/p pPursues ongoing continuing education to remain current in practice.br/p pCharge nurse - oversees the operations of nursing unit during scheduled shift under the general direction of the unit nurse manager.br/p pDemonstrates flexibility in response to new and improved work processes.br/p pMaintains EOC standards by knowing and following procedures in emergency management, hazardous material management, life safety, fire safety, infection control and security.br/p pPossess the knowledge to safely apply theory and practice when providing, planning and assigning nursing care.br/p pComplies with regulatory requirements and Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.br/p pWorks as scheduled, without unplanned absences.br/p pArrives on time and ready to work.br/p pProductivity - ensures completion of assigned workloads and moves to unassigned work at own initiative.br/p pDocumentation is reflective of care provided to ensure accurate charges are placed.br/p pEducation - uses the nursing process to meet patient/family learning needs.br/p pConsistently communicates to co-workers, medical staff, ancillary departments and customers to promote a collaborative and cooperative environment.br/p pCompletes/attends all required inservices and unit staff meetings.br/p pAbility to problem-solve effectively to provide quality patient care.br/p pAbility to work with all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.br/p pCompetently works with Paragon applications (computer system).br/p pPossess the knowledge to use PYXIS medication delivery system.br/p pstronguPhysical Demands and Working Conditions:br/u/strong/p pStanding, sitting, walking and bending (45-90 angles) are required.br/p pMay require stair climbing.br/p pReading and writing are required to fulfill job description.br/p pMay require lifting and turning patients up to 300+ pounds (with assistance), and assisting actively in patient care on occasion.br/p pSpeech, hearing and visual acuity necessary in order to perform job requirement.br/p pExposure to blood, body fluid and hazardous wastes is moderate to frequent and must carry out universal precautions according to hospital policy.br/p pMay be exposed to injury by irrational or disturbed patients, patients with communicable diseases and/or potentially dangerous equipment.br/p pWork involves mental activity.br/p pMay be exposed to bad weather when escorting a discharged patient to their vehicle.br/pbr divstronguRequirements:/u/strong/div div /div divGraduate from an accredited school of nursing and be licensed as a registered nurse by the Virginia State Board of Nursing.  /div div /div divCPR certification is urequired/u./div div /div divCommunicates effectively verbally and in written form.  /div div /div divIs aware of non-verbal communication and makes appropriate use of it./div div /div divAbility to understand advanced theory and practice in nursing./div div /div divFamiliarity with organization and function of each hospital department./div div /div divAbility to discern legal implications in nursing./div div /div divLeadership ability, integrity, and initiative./div div /div divAbility to motivate personnel and problem-solve effectively./div p /p pAbility to maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and other hospital departments./p
