Substitute Driver/Deliverer - Meals on Wheels - Part-time

Job Overview:

• Schedule: No set hours, (As needed) shifts vary from Monday to Friday between 8 am and 4 pm
• Type: Per Diem, Part Time
• Pay: $24 an hour; Non-Exempt
• Location: Fully onsite based out of the Lower East Side. Regular travel across Manhattan

Job Summary:

Substitute drivers for the Meals on Wheels program play a vital role in delivering prepared meals to home-bound, incapacitated, and isolated seniors in a specific area of Manhattan. The drivers have a warm and charismatic personality when engaging with seniors and conducting wellness checks. 

Qualifications:

• Available to train Monday - Friday from 8 - 2 pm for the first 30 - 60 days
• High school diploma/GED preferred
• Five years of professional driving experience
• Knowledge of Lower East Side and Midtown Manhattan Streets
• Maintain a clean driving record
• Good communication skills
• Available to work on call with little notice
• Good people skills
• Interested in providing services to seniors

Responsibilities:

• Available to train Monday - Friday from 8 - 2 pm for the first 30 - 60 days
• Operate agency vehicles safely and in accordance with traffic laws and organizational policies.
• Pick up meals from designated caterers, load them securely, and deliver them to assigned clients.
• Follow established routes and schedules to ensure timely deliveries.
• Deliver meals directly to clients’ doors, ensuring accurate distribution.
• Perform a quick wellness check at each delivery, immediately reporting any concerns about clients’ health, safety, or environment to the supervisor.
• Record daily delivery logs, monthly temperature and taste test logs.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle, perform basic pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and report any vehicle issues.
• Adhere to program policies and procedures
• Other related duties as assigned

Essential Physical Job Functions:

• Must be able to lift and carry bags between 15lbs and 30lbs
• Must be able to walk up and down stairs
• On-call and per diem scheduling will be based on program needs.
• There is exposure to various weather conditions during deliveries.
