About the Department

This is a skilled work in performing, assisting, and directing the maintenance and repair of mechanical/electrical equipment and machinery. Work involves responsibility for the maintenance and repair of all equipment and machinery, both stationary and portable, at modern water and wastewater treatment plants and collection system lift stations. Work is performed under supervisor and is reviewed by supervisor for results obtained.

Position Duties

•Performs the maintenance and repair of all equipment in treatment plants, booster stations, and lift stations.
•Coordinates and performs preventative maintenance functions in accordance with predetermined schedules.
•Plans the scheduling of routine work to include the ordering of materials and parts needed for repairs.
•Performs the more difficult repairs, trains, and supervises subordinates in proper repair and maintenance procedures.
•Drives, maintains, and operates boom trucks, forklifts, and other maintenance vehicles and machinery.
•The job works in confined spaces or hazardous areas.
•Performs light building and structure repairs and maintenance.
•Performs troubleshooting of electrical controls and motors and corrects problems found.
•Pulls trailer-mounted generators to lift stations and operates the stations when City power is disrupted or when required.
•Compiles maintenance and repair data and enters data into computerized asset management system(s) for system reports and records.
•May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.  
•Position is designated as Mission Critical by Department Director.

Minimum Qualifications

•Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in the maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants, distribution booster stations, and collection lift stations.
•Knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with water and wastewater treatment plants and ability to enforce safety standards.
•Skill in the use of tools and equipment used for maintenance and repair of water and wastewater treatment plants and related facilities.
•Ability to diagnose and repair equipment failures.
•Ability to plan, lay out, assign, and check work performed by a small group of skilled or unskilled workers.
•Ability to follow specific oral or written instructions and maintain records and reports without direct supervision.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public.
•Ability to perform safe and proper operation of metal cutting and welding equipment.
•Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience: 
High School diploma or equivalent. Trade school certification may be considered; 3-5 years of experience in the automotive/heavy equipment/Transit repair industry; Completed/maintains a minimum of I Master ASE Heavy certification required. ( I Heavy certification/EVT certification counts as I ASE Heavy Master Certification) or have demonstrated superior automotive/equipment repair skills; Other technical school or manufacturer's certifications will be reviewed to determine if equitable to equal ASE Master Certifications. Certification in basic welding preferred; An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provide the knowledge, skills and abilities and other competencies necessary for success in the target position may be considered. 

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements: 
•Valid Florida Driver’s License required
•Required to pass and maintain qualification for: Respiratory Protection Physical, Pulmonary Function, and Qualitative and Quantitative Fit Test(s)
•This position may be designated as Mission Critical by the City Manager.
