Responsible for the receiving, distribution, and inventory management of pharmaceuticals, and pharmaceutical-related supplies required by UC Davis Health. Duties include but are not limited to, pharmacy supply chain receiving, distribution, inventory control, systems maintenance, and financial stewardship.

- California Licensed Pharmacy Technician
- Forklift Certification within six months of employment
Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
- Experience purchasing/receiving in a hospital setting
- Six (6) months of recent work experience in an acute inpatient hospital Pharmacy setting or Pharmacy supply chain
- Experience with non-sterile compounding tasks using equipment including, but not limited to, graduated cylinders, mortars and pestles, scales, stirring machines, etc.
- Experience in using and troubleshooting automated dispensing machines.
- Ability to accurately perform Pharmacy calculations.
- Ability to recognize situations that exceed technician authority and must be referred to a pharmacist for resolution
- Written and oral communication skills to provide information, explanations, and instructions clearly and concisely to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English
- Knowledge of standard garbing and cleaning procedures for a sterile clean- room environment
- Ability to operate Unit Dose (UD) packaging machines correctly and accurately, completing appropriate documentation
- Complete working knowledge of, and skill, to apply, practices, principles, and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise
- Ability to promote and demonstrate excellent customer service
- Demonstrated reliability and accountability to perform all essential functions of position
- Ability to train and operate a forklift, pallet jack, and other equipment used for inventory control
Preferred Qualifications
- National Board Certification as a Pharmacy Technician
- UC Davis Health experience
- Experience with Pharmacy EMR/Epic, Pyxis ES, Codonics, RedCap, PLX, Lawson, ABC, INMAR, and barcoding systems
- Experience maintaining IV infusion pumps
- Knowledge of current Pharmacy terminology and law
- Knowledge of current regulatory standards of sterile and non-sterile compounding procedures related to USP Chapters 797,795, and 800
- Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment always exists
- Critical thinking skills to independently recognize and define a problem and identify the resources available to help solve the problem
- Decision-making skills to independently create and implement viable solutions and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved
- Ability to impart knowledge and develop the skills of student participating in training programs, as well as new hires and staff seeking addition opportunities. Knowledge of principles and applications for horizontal and vertical laminar air flow hoods
- Ability to manipulate needles, syringes, ampules and vials using proper aseptic technique
- Knowledge of dilution standards and ability to perform related calculations

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.
The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
