Job Title: Phlebotomist I - Macon

Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and offer workflow recommendations. This position involves drawing blood, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontaminating equipment, and updating patient information.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain the venipuncture process in a clear and courteous manner for blood and other specimens.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Understand and follow all physician orders accurately.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper temperature storage and integrity maintenance.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department training sessions.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
  • Perform day-to-day responsibilities, including drawing, intake, processing samples, and assisting in cleaning and restocking.

Essential Skills

  • 6+ months of recent phlebotomy experience but 1 year is preferrable in a clinical setting
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience with all age groups, from pediatric to geriatric.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Experience with 25+ patient draws per day.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods without a chance to sit.
  • Good attention to detail and a team player attitude.
  • Politeness towards patients.
  • Ability to help out without needing to be asked.

Work Environment

The work environment is a smaller, fast-paced setting located at a patient service center in Macon, GA. The work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. This is a contract-to-hire position with a high volume of 30+ draws per day. The role involves responsibilities including drawing, intake, processing samples, and assisting with cleaning and restocking. The facility requires no cellphone usage and expects employees to be comfortable standing most of the day.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $18.75/hr.
