Job Description\n

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Acute Care Unit night shift position, requiring at least one year of strong, broad Med/Surg experience and a compact or MT RN license.

\n \n Responsibilities\n
  • Work in the Acute Care Unit of a Level III Trauma Center
  • Majority medical patient population including COPD, CHF, CAD, kidney failure, sepsis, UTI, GI bleeds, and wound care with some surgical cases
  • Stroke Certified Unit with training provided
  • Unit has 40 beds divided into two areas with two nurse stations
  • RN patient ratio is 1:5-6
  • Support includes 3-4 RNs and 2-3 CNAs per side each shift
  • EMR is Meditech, with training provided during orientation
  • Uses Baxter IV pumps, Pyxis for med dispensing, and Voalte for communication
  • 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week, with 6 weekend shifts per 6 weeks
  • Holiday shifts required (1-2 over winter season)
  • Must float to Med/Surg combo, Surgical/Oncology, ED, or PCU as needed
  • First-time travelers accepted with strong relevant experience
  • General and unit-specific orientation provided, including cross-training to sister surgical unit
  • Participation in bedside shift report, hourly rounding, and use of patient white boards required
  • Clean scrubs required with no color restrictions
  • No restrictions on hair color, tattoos, or piercings
  • Free parking provided with shuttle service in winter months
  • Potential for contract extension or full-time conversion
  • RTO must be approved prior to start but must maintain three 12-hour shifts per week

  • Active MT or compact RN license is required
  • Minimum 1 year of recent strong, broad Med/Surg experience
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Experience with epidural/PCA/medication management, drain/ostomies, chest tubes, wound care, post-op ortho, and general post-surgical recovery required
  • Must be flexible and have strong teamwork and communication skills
