Job Description
JOB TITLE: Night Watch / Third Shift Awake Staff
EMPLOYER: Path2Freedom

REPORTS TO: Director of Program
EFFECTIVE DATE:
Provide overnight supervision and care for child survivors of human trafficking during third shift hours, ensuring safety and responding to any needs that arise during nighttime hours. Maintain awake supervision throughout the overnight shift, conduct regular safety checks, and provide crisis intervention and support as needed in a trauma-informed manner.
Maintain awake supervision of residents during overnight hours
Conduct regular safety checks throughout the facility and document observations
Respond to behavioral incidents, emergencies, or resident needs with trauma-informed approaches
Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed
Monitor security systems, doors, windows, and facility perimeter
Complete required documentation and shift reports accurately and thoroughly
Coordinate with day staff and house mentors for seamless care transitions
Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, facility policies, and DCF regulations
Maintain a calm, supportive presence that promotes residents’ sense of safety
Respond to medical emergencies and contact appropriate personnel or emergency services
Support residents who wake during the night with reassurance and trauma-informed care
Maintain confidentiality of all resident and program information
This position does not have direct supervisory authority.
High school diploma or equivalent required
Ability to work overnight shifts and remain alert throughout the shift
Experience working with children, adolescents, or vulnerable populations preferred
Commitment to trauma-informed care principles and willingness to learn and apply therapeutic approaches
Successful completion of Level 2 background screening (required)
Crisis intervention training (provided by Path2Freedom)
Trauma-informed care training (provided by Path2Freedom)
Pre-service training (provided by Path2Freedom)
CPR Certification (required)

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Vigilance & Alertness: Ability to remain awake, attentive, and responsive throughout overnight hours
Crisis Management: Calm under pressure with ability to assess situations quickly and respond appropriately
Trauma-Informed Care: Understanding of trauma’s impact and ability to provide reassuring, non-triggering responses
Documentation Skills: Accurate, thorough, and timely completion of required reports and observations
Communication: Clear communication with residents, staff, and emergency personnel as needed
Reliability: Consistent attendance and punctuality for overnight shifts
Discretion & Confidentiality: Impeccable judgment in handling sensitive information
Problem-Solving: Ability to make sound decisions independently during overnight hours
Compassion: Genuine care for residents’ wellbeing and sense of safety
Mission Alignment: Commitment to serving child survivors of trafficking with dignity and respect
Ability to remain awake and alert for entire overnight shift (typically 8-12 hours)
Residential home environment requiring regular walking throughout facility for safety checks
Ability to respond quickly to emergencies, including physical intervention if necessary following approved protocols
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
Exposure to emotional intensity, trauma responses, and potential behavioral crises
Work performed in trauma-informed environment serving vulnerable child survivors
Overnight shift hours (typically 10pm-6am or similar)
May require occasional overtime or schedule flexibility
