Job Title: Medical Technician / Phlebotomist
Specialty: Phlebotomy / Specimen Collection and Processing
Site: VA Bedford Healthcare System
Location: 200 Springs Rd, Bedford, MA 01730
Duration: 6 months contract with the possibility of 6 months extension
Shift Schedule: Primarily 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. (other day shifts may be scheduled as needed)
Shifts Needed Per Month: Approx. 21 22 shifts per FTE (full-time hours).
License:
Any U.S. state phlebotomy certification acceptable (federal facility).
Certifications:
- Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) Required
- BLS (or ACLS) Required
Experience Needed:
Minimum 3 years recent phlebotomy experience (inpatient/outpatient).
Special Skills Needed:
- Venipuncture and capillary collection (inpatient, outpatient, ED, STAT)
- Specimen processing (centrifuging, aliquoting, send-out prep)
- Accurate patient/specimen ID
- Strong customer service and communication
- Ability to follow VA privacy, HIPAA, and safety standards
Credentialing / Onboarding Time: 6 8 weeks
Responsibilities:
- Perform high-volume inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy
- Support ED, STAT, ASAP, and timed draws
- Process specimens following lab and VA protocols
- Maintain accurate labeling and documentation
- Protect patient information per VA and HIPAA policies
- Participate in quality assurance and safety compliance
- Provide courteous service to Veterans and staff
- Attend required team meetings/training
