Job Description

Cinder is partnering with a manufacturer to hire a full-time, direct-hire Precision Toolroom Machinist. You’ll be the go-to expert for hands-on machining, turning prints into accurate parts and supporting toolroom operations from layout to final verification.

A day in this role

You begin by reviewing prints, planning the setup, and selecting fixtures. You lay out stock, scribing key references, then set up and run manual lathes, mills, and grinders to produce simple to moderately complex components. Throughout the shift, you collaborate closely with a Tool & Die Maker—helping compute dimensions, planning assembly steps, and fitting parts with hand tools. Before parts leave your bench, you confirm they meet spec with precision instruments and lend a hand to Tool Grinders and Tool & Die Makers when needed.

What you’ll handle
  • Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, and grinders to machine parts to specification (simple to moderately complex).
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points to lay out stock; assist a Tool & Die Maker in computing dimensions and planning layout/assembly operations.
  • Position and secure parts in holding devices; use hand tools to fit and assemble parts into mechanisms or subassemblies.
  • Verify finished work against specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Aid Tool Grinders and Tool and Die Makers as needed.
  • Provide required work tools and measurement devices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What you bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of trade school in machining technologies and two years of related toolroom or manufacturing experience; an equivalent mix of education and experience will be considered.
  • Hands-on proficiency with GD&T and strong print-reading ability.
  • Previous CNC programming experience.
