The Maintenance Mechanic sets up, repairs, rebuilds, and installs production equipment to ensure continuous, safe, and efficient operation of a high-speed manufacturing line. This role serves as the primary technical leader on the shift, overseeing planned maintenance, troubleshooting, and efforts to reduce equipment downtime. The Maintenance Mechanic works closely with production operators to identify potential equipment issues early, supports preventive maintenance activities, and helps maintain high standards of product quality and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Set up, repair, rebuild, and install production equipment to support continuous production of all products.
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning production equipment, including fillers, conveyors, drives, coolers, palletizing systems, boxing components, bucket elevators, ovens, and other liquid packaging machinery.
- Serve as the primary technical leader on the shift, overseeing all planned maintenance activities and driving efforts to reduce downtime due to equipment failures.
- Analyze mechanical and operational problems, identify root causes, and develop and implement corrective action plans.
- Perform corrective repairs and running adjustments to maintain maximum production output, safety, and product quality.
- Set up production lines for product changeovers, ensuring equipment is properly configured and operating efficiently.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical drives, pumps, valves, pneumatics, hydraulics, and related components.
- Use machining and fabrication skills to repair or modify parts and equipment as needed.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems, including 480V power, three-phase motors, and PLC-controlled equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on beverage filling and packaging equipment in accordance with established schedules and procedures.
- Assist in training operators to recognize and report potential equipment malfunctions and failures.
- Support operators in understanding and performing basic preventive maintenance tasks.
- Read and interpret mechanical diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation to support troubleshooting and repairs.
- Use machine shop equipment, hand tools, power tools, and test equipment safely and effectively.
- Apply principles of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) or Lean Manufacturing, where applicable, to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Document maintenance activities and communicate equipment status and issues to supervisors and team members.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all safety procedures while working on production equipment.
- At least 2+ years of experience as a line mechanic in a high-speed production environment, preferably in food manufacturing or bottling.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and repair liquid packaging machinery, including fillers, bucket elevators, ovens, palletizers, and related equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical drives, pumps, valves, and conveyor systems.
- Ability to use machine shop equipment, hand tools, power tools, and test equipment safely and effectively.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical diagrams and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of pneumatic controls and components, including troubleshooting and repair of pneumatic systems.
- Knowledge of hydraulic controls and components, including troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic systems.
- Experience in pipe fitting, welding, and machining for maintenance and repair tasks.
- Electrical troubleshooting skills, including 480V electrical systems, three-phase motors, and PLCs.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance on beverage filling and packaging equipment.
- Working knowledge of computers to support maintenance activities and documentation.
- Ability to analyze mechanical and operational problems and implement effective corrective actions.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and equipment reliability in a production environment.
- Previous experience with TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) or Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
- Experience in a food and beverage manufacturing environment operating under GMP standards.
- Strong fabrication skills, including machining and welding, to modify or repair equipment components.
- Effective communication skills to train and support production operators in identifying and reporting equipment issues.
- Ability to work independently as the primary technical resource on a shift while collaborating effectively with production teams.
- Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and follow established procedures.

Work Environment
This role operates in a GMP-regulated food and beverage production facility with high-speed filling and packaging equipment. The schedule follows a 2-2-3 pattern on B and D shifts from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., providing a consistent and predictable rotation of workdays and days off. The environment requires adherence to strict hygiene and safety standards, including no jewelry, makeup, or long nails on the production floor. Attire is generally casual, provided it complies with GMP and safety requirements. You will work around mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, using a variety of tools and equipment, and will be expected to follow all safety procedures while working in an active production setting.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
