The Lab Technologist performs independent equipment and instrument setup, documentation processing, and patient-focused technical duties during the night shift. This role supports a mission-driven, service-oriented healthcare environment by ensuring accurate, timely, and safe laboratory services for patients and clinical teams.
Responsibilities
- Perform equipment and instrument setup according to established procedures and protocols.
- Operate laboratory equipment and technology accurately and safely throughout the shift.
- Process and manage all required documentation completely, accurately, and in a timely manner.
- Work independently and carry out all assigned duties without direct supervision.
- Deliver high-quality patient care within the scope of the technologist role and support optimal patient outcomes.
- Prioritize and manage workload efficiently during night shift hours to meet clinical needs.
- Collaborate with clinical and surgical teams, particularly in settings where operating room support is required.
- Follow all laboratory, hospital, and regulatory policies and procedures to maintain a safe and compliant environment.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
- Respond to on-call responsibilities as assigned, providing reliable support during off-hours.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- BLS-AHA certification (American Heart Association).
- At least 5+ years of experience as a technologist, preferably in a hospital setting.
- Strong medical technology skills and familiarity with hospital-based laboratory workflows.
- Ability to perform equipment and instrument setup according to established procedures.
- Ability to work independently and manage all duties without direct supervision.
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and technical work.
- Operating Room (OR) experience is advantageous.
- Hospital experience is strongly preferred.
- Excellent patient care and interpersonal skills.
- Comfort working in a Christian-focused, service-oriented environment that values compassion, integrity, humility, and teamwork.
- Interest in long-term career growth within an academic medical system with opportunities for advancement.
This position works a night (NOC) shift schedule, Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., typically structured as five 8-hour shifts. The role is based in a hospital environment that utilizes medical technology and laboratory equipment in support of inpatient and surgical care, including potential support for the operating room. The broader department may also include 10-hour shifts with variable 07:00 start times and 17:30 end times, and there is an on-call requirement after weekday shifts until 07:00 the next morning, approximately three times per week. Weekend on-call coverage may include 24-hour periods from Saturday 07:00 to Sunday 07:00 and/or Sunday 07:00 to Monday 07:00.
