Litigation Associate

Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Litigation Associate to join our litigation team and manage a diverse docket of civil and commercial disputes. The successful candidate will support litigation strategy, handle case management from inception through resolution, draft pleadings and motions, oversee discovery, prepare for trial, and communicate effectively with clients and opposing counsel. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented litigator who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering practical, results-focused legal services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of civil and commercial disputes, including calendaring deadlines and maintaining case files.
  • Develop and implement litigation strategy in coordination with senior attorneys and partners.
  • Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and other court documents with clear, persuasive legal writing.
  • Conduct and supervise discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and deposition preparation.
  • Prepare witness and exhibit lists, trial binders, and assist in trial preparation and courtroom presentation.
  • Handle court filings, coordinate with e-filing systems, and ensure compliance with local and federal court rules and civil procedure.
  • Communicate directly with clients to provide updates, obtain instructions, and manage expectations with professionalism and responsiveness.
  • Analyze evidence, synthesize facts and legal issues, and prepare memos and summaries to support litigation positions.
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel on discovery disputes, settlements, and procedural matters to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across practice groups to address complex legal and business issues and support business development activities.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and current admission to WSBA.
  • 3+ years of litigation experience in a law firm, with experience in commercial disputes preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and other substantive court filings.
  • Proven ability in trial preparation and experience supporting hearings, depositions, and trials.
  • Strong knowledge of civil procedure, evidence analysis, and the discovery process.
  • Excellent legal writing, research, and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective client communication and case management skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage competing deadlines.
  • Skilled negotiator with experience in settlement discussions and dispute resolution.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools, e-filing systems, and case management software.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and contribute to business development and firm initiatives.
