Maintenance Technician III

Lockport IL, onsite 

2nd shift, 3pm-11pm 

Position Overview
The Maintenance Technician III is a senior-level industrial maintenance professional responsible for ensuring reliable operation of production equipment. This role focuses on preventative and corrective maintenance, installations and commissioning of machinery, driving continuous improvement, and minimizing downtime across manufacturing processes. The Technician III will work across mechanical, electrical and control systems, mentor junior technicians, support safety and production goals, and participate in capital projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial equipment and production machinery to maximize uptime and reliability.
  • Rapidly troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems to restore production.
  • Diagnose and repair PLCs and control systems; read, interpret and modify ladder logic where applicable.
  • Install, upgrade and commission new machinery and equipment, including extrusion and injection molding systems (as applicable).
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to reduce recurring failures and improve mean time between failures (MTBF).
  • Execute planned shutdowns, changeovers and capital project work, coordinating with production and engineering teams to meet schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, parts usage and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Mentor and train Maintenance Technicians I/II and operators on equipment operation, basic troubleshooting and safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding and PPE requirements.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergency service calls as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma, associate degree or trade apprenticeship in industrial maintenance, electrical or mechanical disciplines preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment (must have: Maintenance, Industrial).
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with experience servicing industrial machinery, conveyors and production equipment (Machinery).
  • Strong electrical skills including wiring, motor control, VFDs and experience working up to 480V.
  • Experience with PLCs, ladder logic and control system troubleshooting preferred (nice to have: PLC, Ladder Logic, Troubleshooting).
  • Experience with injection molding and/or extrusion equipment is a plus (nice to have: Injection Molding, Extrusion).
  • Experience performing equipment installations and commissioning preferred (nice to have: Installations).
  • Proficient with diagnostic tools, multimeters, hand tools and mechanical alignment tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams and technical manuals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and willingness to mentor junior staff.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, overtime and participate in an on-call rotation; valid drivers license and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
