Compensation: $90,000-$130,000/year
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead and optimize our plastics manufacturing operations. The role is responsible for overseeing injection molding production, ensuring product quality and regulatory compliance (ISO 9001, ISO 13485), driving cost reduction and productivity improvements, and maintaining accurate production planning, inventory control, and WIP management through ERP systems. The Production Manager will implement SPC/SQC and APQP methodologies, manage labor and resources, and lead continuous improvement efforts to meet delivery, quality, and financial targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily injection molding operations, including scheduling, machine utilization, and staffing to meet production targets and customer delivery dates.
- Develop and execute production plans using ERP systems to control inventory, track WIP, and ensure accurate material availability and lead times.
- Implement and maintain SPC and SQC programs to monitor process capability, reduce variation, and ensure product conformity.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality management system requirements, including documentation, audits, and corrective actions.
- Oversee APQP and product launch activities to ensure robust production readiness and on-time start-ups for new products.
- Drive continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives focused on labor costs, scrap reduction, cycle-time optimization, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Manage production staff through hiring, training, performance management, and development of a safety-first culture.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and troubleshooting activities to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Work with engineering and tooling vendors to resolve process issues, optimize part and mold performance, and implement process validations.
- Prepare and present production reports, KPI dashboards, cost analyses, and improvement plans to senior management and customers as required.
- Lead root cause analysis and CAPA processes for non-conformances and implement robust corrective and preventive measures.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with procurement, quality, engineering and sales to balance production priorities and support customer requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in injection molding manufacturing with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role is a plus but not required.
- Hands-on experience with injection molding processes, tooling, mold maintenance, and process optimization.
- Proven knowledge of ERP systems for production planning, inventory control and WIP tracking (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics or similar).
- Strong understanding and practical application of SPC, SQC, APQP and other quality tools and methodologies.
- Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality management systems.
