Industrial Mechanic
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Industrial Mechanic to join our maintenance team and ensure reliable operation of plant equipment. The ideal candidate will perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on a wide range of mechanical and electromechanical systems, support machine installation and commissioning, and contribute to continuous improvement and safety initiatives. This role requires a strong mechanical foundation, troubleshooting ability, and familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic and rotating equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electromechanical systems to minimize downtime and restore equipment to safe operating condition.
- Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance tasks, including vibration analysis, lubrication, inspection and condition monitoring to extend equipment life and prevent unplanned failures.
- Maintain and repair rotating equipment such as electric motors, gearboxes, pumps, compressors, conveyors and bearings; replace seals and bearings as required.
- Perform mechanical alignments, shaft and coupling installations, and precision measurement using micrometers, calipers and dial indicators.
- Repair and replace belt and chain drives, sprockets, pulleys, and related components.
- Support CNC machine maintenance and basic adjustments; collaborate with machinists and external service providers for complex repairs.
- Assist with PLC troubleshooting and ladder logic review to isolate mechanical versus control issues; collaborate with electricians or controls technicians as needed.
- Install, commission and test new machinery and retrofit existing equipment per specifications and safety standards.
- Inspect and maintain motor controls, VFDs and electrical connections related to mechanical systems; follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures for all work.
- Perform welding and fabrication (MIG/TIG) tasks for fixtures, guards and repairs when required.
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics and technical documentation to complete repairs and installations correctly.
- Document maintenance activities, parts used, and downtime in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS); recommend parts and improvements.
- Follow company safety policies, participate in continuous improvement, and promote a culture of reliability and efficiency.
- Provide training and guidance to junior mechanics and assist with shift handovers and maintenance planning.
Qualifications
- Journeyman or certified Industrial Mechanic / Maintenance Mechanic, vocational diploma or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.
- Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in industrial maintenance or a related mechanical trade (experience expectations may vary by employer).
- Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance practices, including vibration analysis and condition monitoring.
- Proven experience working with electric motors, gearboxes, bearings, seals, conveyors, pumps and compressors.
- Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting and ladder logic, CNC machine maintenance, VFDs, motor controls and basic electrical systems.
- Welding and fabrication skills (MIG/TIG) and ability to perform mechanical repairs and fabrications.
- Competent in blueprint reading, mechanical alignment and use of precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).
- Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) compliance, confined space and other relevant safety procedures.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads, work at heights, and perform physical tasks in industrial environments; flexibility to work shifts or overtime as required.
- Good communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a maintenance team.
- Relevant certifications a plus: vibration analysis certification, welding certification, electrical or controls certifications, forklift license, first aid/CPR.
- Valid drivers license and willingness to travel between sites if required.
