Job Summary and Qualifications

Role Summary: The ultrasound technologist operates ultrasound equipment to make quality images of designated portions of the body under the direct order of a physician and in accordance with standard operating procedures. Accomplishes patient care in a timely, professional, efficient and safe manner. The ultrasound technologist must be able to think and act independently and assess emergency situations accurately. Good oral and written communication skills are required. 

The Intermediate Ultrasound Technologist may be required to perform invasive and non-invasive procedures on a variety of patients, utilize sterile techniques and assist physicians as necessary throughout the Mission Health System. Continuing education learned skills and experience will be utilized. This position will function without constant supervision to produce superior quality imaging studies. The Intermediate Ultrasound Technologist must routinely work within a minimum of 2 qualifying ARDMS specialty certifications in addition to ARDMS, ARRT or CCI Vascular certification as directed by department managers/supervisors to meet the specific needs of the departments. This includes but is not limited to; Abdomen (AB), Breast (BR), Fetal Echo (FE), Neurosonology (NE), Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) or Pediatric Sonography (PS). 

What qualifications you will need:
  • Required Education: Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program.
  • Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related profession.
  • Required License: ARDMS registry in two (2) specialties pertinent to the department's needs. Additionally, vascular ultrasound registry from either ARDMS, ARRT or CCI. High Risk OB technologist must be registered in OB/GYN. Must complete required CEU’s to maintain certification. BCLS certified 
  • Preferred License: ARDMS in (3) three specialties. High Risk OB preferred license is fetal echo, pediatrics and/or neurosonology.
  • Required Experience: 3 years of previous experience in ultrasound.
  • Required QA: Technologist must participate in section QA programs as necessary and complete required educational guidelines in addition to the ARRT/ ARDMS/CCI re-certification guidelines. 
  • Preferred Experience: 4 years previous experience in ultrasound. If High Risk OB Technologist, then preferred experience is 3 years in ultrasound routinely performing OB/GYN exams with experience in a high-risk obstetrical setting.
