    Job Description

    Reports To: General Manager
    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

As a Shift Leader, you are responsible for overall guest satisfaction, the quality of our product and team performance, ensuring all of Tom+Chee's highest standards are met. As a shift leader, you are expected to have mastered all areas of work at Tom+Chee, so that you may appropriately support crewmembers and assist in any area as business dictates.

    Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Proactively interacts with guests to ensure a positive dining experience for all guests through dining room oversight, food delivery and table touches.
    • Resolves guest concerns, problems or complaints in a timely manner.
    • Possesses and retains general food knowledge, as well as specific information, such as recipes.
    • Maintains knowledge of all kitchen stations' requirements, including building and grilling, and has the ability to fill in on any station as business dictates.
    • Monitors food production to ensure food safety and quality standards are met.
    • Understands the appropriate thresholds for Labor and Food costs and help to ensure that the store is operating within these guidelines.
    • Understands inventory requirements and assists with inventory as business dictates.
    • Assists with the ordering of food, beverages and other supplies as business dictates.
    • Has the ability to use the POS system quickly and correctly.
    • Follows proper cash handling policies and guidelines, ensuring individual and store over/short is in acceptable company standard.
    • Performs store openings and closings per company policies and procedures.
    • Completes any required checklists, paperwork or other administrative items in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Communicates any issues to the general manager.
    • Adheres to all restaurant policies and procedures, paying special attention to health and/or safety procedures.
    • Understands and is able to discuss Tom+Chee catering options with guests.
    • Recommends and oversees restaurant specials based on business trends.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Oversees crewmembers, ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed.
    • Follows management guidelines for sound employee relations and safety of all crewmembers.
    • Utilizes performance management techniques, including coaching/counseling and verbal warnings as necessary to address issues as they occur.
    • For more serious incidents, coordinates formal disciplinary actions with the General Manager, Area Manager and/or Human Resources.
    • Participates and may assist in oversight of training functions of the crew.
    • Delegates tasks as appropriate to ensure the smooth running of the restaurant.
    • Works to keep crewmembers motivated through recognition and by establishing and maintaining a positive atmosphere.
    • Participates in crew meetings and provides feedback for formal appraisals.

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Restaurant and/or management experience is preferred.

    Language Ability:
    Ability to speak effectively before groups of guests or crewmembers. Ability to read and interpret documents such as policy information, memos, checklists, safety rules, profit and loss statements and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

    Math Ability:
    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra to various business functions.

    Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    While performing the duties of this job, the crewmember will use and maintain the following equipment: oven, grill, stovetop, knives and utensils, dishwashing machine, slicer, blender, computer, fax, POS system and phone system.
