Working under moderate supervision, supports the members of the designated department's sub-specialty division to foster greater divisional productivity, efficiency and organization. Understands and utilizes a network of computer systems for processing patient information and image studies. Comprehends a multitude of work and tasks related to radiology internally and externally to the division, department and hospital. Interacts with physicians, staff, visitors and patients in a courteous, engaging and helpful manner.
Based primarily in the designated division reading room (or close proximity). Responsible for answering telephone, screening, handling, routing, or taking messages for members of the division as necessary; may require sensitive handling of patient and physician calls
Receives visitors and responds to requests on demand from health care providers, department and hospital staff and other visitors who have contact with the division
Answers questions and provides information to patients and health care providers, which requires detailed knowledge of department/sectional procedures. Responsive to requests via telephone, facsimile, computer e-mail and through written correspondence
Understands and uses Epic, Radiant, and the hospital's Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) computer equipment. Assists with the effective use of Epic, Radiant and PACS in daily workflow as requested
Responsible for review and management of identified databases (EPIC worklists, excel spreadsheets, etc.) for patient and/or procedure tracking
Responsible for transferring images from PACS to compact disks (CDs) and importing external images into PACS
Manages customer service issues and resolves problems for the physicians and staff in the division. Communicates and interprets departmental and hospital policies and procedures for customers with clarity and completeness
Facilitates resolution of misunderstandings related to operations, policies and procedures
Utilizes computer information system to obtain information that may be directly or indirectly pertinent to completing a customer requests for information. Prepares and maintains files and folders in appropriate condition. Ascertains inventory needs for record storage supplies and processes requests in a timely manner
Files all material according to established policies and procedures and in an appropriate and timely manner
Interfaces with departmental and outside imaging centers for the retrieval of records and films for interpretation and/or consultation
Assists with patient exam/procedure coordination and communication of related information, in person, via phone or any other required means
Performs other duties as required or assigned
Work requires broad learned knowledge of specialized field normally acquired through technical or vocational training. High School diploma or equivalent required, Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.
6 months to 1 year of customer service experience or experience in a hospital setting preferred.
