Job Title: Front End & Beverage Department Manager Reports to: Store Manager Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt Schedule: Varied Overview: The Front End & Beverage Department Manager is responsible for providing outstanding customer service. They oversee and maintain all aspects of the department’s cash handling, transaction processing and all coffee/tea/juice/pastry programs. They manage all activities of the department including selling and service management, merchandising and business management, product handling and presentation, scheduling, ordering, receiving, inventory control, drops, deposits and daily accounting according to company standards. They plan, order, prepare and present all beverage orders according to department goals and standards to maximize sales and gross profit. This position is responsible for training and developing staff, writing work schedules, supervising and managing department staff to ensure correct ordering, receiving, unloading, storage, and rotation of merchandise and displays, and acting with integrity and honesty while consistently promoting the culture and values of Green Zebra Grocery. Job Functions: Daily Responsibilities • Collaborates with Store Manager on purchasing and product mix. • Sources, secures and nurtures strong vendor partner relationships. • Conducts research as needed to further define customers’ demands, understands trends and captures best practices. • Evaluates opportunities for community engagement and is resource for local vendor growth. • Maintains our commitment to local, healthy, sustainable products while offering value reflecting the demands of the community. • Communicates changes and ordering instructions to the department staff on a weekly basis. • Actively engages with staff, customers and community within stores on a daily basis. • Manages inventory to ensure selection, freshness, and availability of product to drive sales; follows procedures for effective inventory control; controls expenditures and resources. • Effectively implements promotional programs, merchandising and pricing plans. • Manages department budget & achieves financial goals including sales, gross margin and labor. • Meets labor, sales and margin goals determined in conjunction with the Store Manager. • Maintains working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers and financial goals. • Manages inventory, in-stock position, pricing integrity, merchandising plans, labor, security, expense control and other operational processes to company standards. • Evaluates department conditions and operations to determine strengths and areas for improvement; reinforces strengths while developing and implementing improved practices and procedures. • Responsible for scheduling department staff and adhering to wage and hour policies and regulations. • Coordinates returns and credit from suppliers where applicable; keeps accurate accounting of credit requests. • Reviews invoices for accuracy. Staff Hiring, Training & Development • Recruits, hires, trains, reviews and develops staff on all aspects of running the department including scheduling and labor budget management, merchandising, ordering, inventory management, physical inventory procedures, invoice payment and purchase summary tracking, training of support employees and customer service. • Works with department staff to resolve issues pertaining to customer service, safety, productivity, performance, security or any other activity or situation that may have an adverse effect on the workplace. • Ensures consistent and equitable administration of HR policies, procedures and guidelines to facilitate effective staff relations. • Supports training guides & standards while providing strong leadership to department staff. • Strengthens department and business by developing staff for succession planning and business growth. • Plans, develops and implements policies, procedures and operational changes within department in conjunction with the Store Manager. Quality & Safety Standards • Creates and maintains a safe environment for team members and customers. • Ensures that department shelves, displays and storage areas are in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards. • Monitors cooler and display area temperature to ensure product quality; repo, juicer refrigeration failure immediately. • Ensures company standards for safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation and productivity are maintained; ensures current food handler permits are maintained for department employees.
Qualifications and Experience: • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a coffee/barista & juice bar in the retail grocery industry. • Minimum of two (2) years at management or supervisory level. • Broad functional experience in purchasing, merchandising, inventory control/receiving and staff training. • Proven leadership, communication and collaboration skills. • Values community, sustainability, passion for beverages, food and fun.
