    # JOB SUMMARY:# At the direction and under the supervision of a pathologist(s), a pathologists# assistant may perform the following tasks and assume responsibility for:# preparation, gross description and dissection of human tissue surgical specimens; teaching courses in human anatomy and physiology, histology, gross pathology, gross and microscopic photography and gross dissection skills for surgical pathology; performance of various managerial and/or administrative duties, including supervising assigned employees, etc.# MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Education # Training: The successful applicant must have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university and successful completion of a pathologists# assistant program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences within the previous five years.# Must be certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Registry as a Pathologist Assistant.## After initial certification, must complete a Certification Maintenance Program every three years. Work Orientation # Experience:## Previous experience preferred. Skills # Abilities: Visual acuity and color perception is required. Ability to: a) exercise appropriate independent judgment; b) effectively control, evaluate and operate various laboratory equipment; c) communicate effectively with other hospital personnel and with patients; d) maintain discretion with patients; e) adapt hours of availability to variable and changing needs of the laboratory; f) foster a service excellence atmosphere that contributes to a healing and compassionate environment.", "
