    Ensure the timely, accurate and efficient movement of product through the supply chain by leading the efficient and effective operation of bakery shipping, distribution centers and Sales center shipping in the designated geographic area of responsibility. The primary focus of this position is safety, customer service, cost management, product accountability, product carrier control and operational discipline. This position will have direct responsibility over the logistics network in the Easts of the Central Business Unit.
    Areas of responsibility include: the operations of the South Bend, IN DC, the Lebanon, IN DC and the Addison, IL DC. Oversight of the bakery shipping operations of the Elkhart, IN bakery and the Grand Rapids, MI bakery. And the shipping operations of the Sales centers serviced by the aforementioned DCs and bakeries.
    Oversee, manage and monitor the performance of all third-party logistics providers operating distribution centers in the designated geographic area of responsibility.
    Work with local management and the broader distribution team to ensure an effective, reliable, repeatable, and documented process is in place and being followed for all regular bakery and distribution center distribution activities.
    Monitor the performance of the shipping operations of all bakeries in the designated geographic area of responsibility.
    Ensure proper product accountability processes are being followed and monitor results to identify and resolve any issues with shipping accuracy.
    Monitor performance metrics relative to cost and service level and make adjustments as necessary to lower cost and meet service expectations.
    Interact regularly with bakery management to facilitate cooperation and joint efforts to optimize the supply chain and to discuss and resolve any issue or concerns.
    Interact consistently and routinely with Sales Management to facilitate cooperation and joint efforts to optimize the supply chain and to discuss and resolve any issues or concerns at the distribution centers.
    Work closely with Sales Management to ensure that Sales center shipping is performing effectively, including product accountability processes in place, service levels meeting the needs of the business and costs as low as possible.
    Work closely with the Senior Transportation Manager to support the development and execution of the overall transportation strategy.
    Ensure quality, effective distribution processes are in place for timely dispatching of transports on a daily basis.
    Work closely with the Senior Transportation Manager to monitor the performance of the transportation network seeking out ways to optimize the transportation system minimizing total miles.
    Work closely with sales to determine delivery requirements and monitor actual performance to identify any gaps or issues.
    Assure the safety of all personnel and compliance with all State/Federal regulations applying to logistics activities including DOT, FDA, and OSHA.
    Ensure the effective execution of company initiatives including new methods of distribution, new products and seasonal business requirements.
    Participate in the development and execution of new strategies designed to lower cost and or improve service
    Interact with members of Sales and Manufacturing leadership to continuously improve the business.
    Work co-cooperatively with other Supply Chain Logistics Leaders.
    Take on special projects and additional duties as assigned.

    Indirect reports: Bakery shipping managers

    Job Requirements Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or Logistics preferred.
    10 years of experience in distribution preferably in a manufacturing environment.
    Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, and excellent math skills.
    Experience working with unionized workforce preferred.
    Must possess computer knowledge in Microsoft office applications.
    Able to work in a self-directed team environment and be highly participative.
