    Job Description

    Performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing purposes. Properly identifies patients and follows procedures for collection of specimens.

    Performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing purposes. Properly identifies patients and follows procedures for collection of specimens. Ensures that all information from the blood collection of specimens is entered into the laboratory computer system including time drawn and time received. They will also receive phone calls, call reports, deliver reports, and perform other non-technical duties under the close supervision of a Medical Technologist. This laboratory is a 24-hour full-service laboratory, and all phlebotomists must be willing to work any hours or any days pre-scheduled by the Laboratory Administrative Director or Phlebotomy Supervisor. Scheduling will be done in advance, however in some emergencies, phlebotomists will be asked to work when not previously scheduled.

    Education: Requires a high school diploma and/or GED.

    Licensure/Certification: Certification as a phlebotomist through a nationally recognized agency such as ASCP, ASPT, NCA, NAHP, or equivalent is required. BLS certification required.
