    Function/Duties of Position

    The purpose of this position is to assist in database maintenance, implementation and analysis of multiple projects focused on understanding the role Electronic Health Record usability plays on provider decision making and patient safety. Responsibilities include collection of data, coordination of EHR simulations, performance of qualitative interviews and both qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Responsibilities include:
    • Oversee upkeep of the research database for a study evaluating how clinicians interact with electronic health record systems. Additional responsibilities including managing lab and or research units
    • Perform day-to-day duties of the project including deliverables, coordination of meetings, simulations and site logistics. Independently interact with internal and external constituents as applicable. Provide guidance, training and supervision to RA2 as needed
    • Collect and process study data and analysis. Prepare written reports and scholarly publications. Assume independent responsibility for research studies
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Some schedule flexibility for evenings & weekends depending on study requirements is necessary
    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree (4yr) with major courses in field of research and 1-3 years of relevant experience
    • Proficient with database management and programming languages, software such as SQL, MATLAB, C/C++, Linux, or Python
    • Ability to design databases for research projects, using tools to maintain and extract data for research purposes and provide written and computer-generated reports on data for a wide variety of audiences
    • Knowledge of capturing, storing, querying and making sense of quantitative data
    • Effectiveness in organizing tasks and setting priorities, working efficiently and flexibly with minimum oversight, interacting constructively with faculty and staff, and the ability to be adaptable, creative, and a quick learner
    • For candidates who meet the prerequisites for Senior Research Assistant and have requisite background, independent design and conducting of experiments is expected, as is management of the research group activities as a whole
    • Good written and verbal communication skills for independent interaction with faculty, staff, division and external constituents
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Master's degree in medical informatics, computer science, electrical engineering or related technical discipline
    • One to three years of experience designing databases for research projects
    • Experience in the field as a database administrator, with experience in database management, recovery, backups and system tuning, as well as operating system administration
    • Strong background in mathematics or statistics
    • EPIC systems knowledge
