The Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) has assembled a multidisciplinary team of scientists to respond to serious viral disease threats, including AIDS, chronic viral infection-associated diseases, newly emerging viral diseases and infectious diseases of the elderly. Our programs are intended to span the continuum between basic and clinical science, in which discoveries are rapidly advanced from the level of molecular and cellular biology through animal models and ultimately into clinical testing. The development of this unique program in immunology and virology provides an important training opportunity for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at OHSU. This is why an important part of our mission is the training of young scientists in newer academic disciplines emerging at the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute.
Function/Duties of Position
The Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI) at the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) West Campus has a multidisciplinary team of scientists to respond to serious pathogenic threats, including HIV (AIDS) and tuberculosis.
The VGTI has been working for two decades on novel vaccines and therapies for these and other diseases, doing research with both human and monkey tissues, many of which are biohazardous.
To prepare for upcoming human clinical trials of prototype vaccines, VGTI has created a Quality System to ensure that clinical trial activities follow the quality standards and regulations required by sponsors and regulatory agencies.
Under general supervision, the Research Assistant 2 will help create, manage and improve the VGTI Quality System, perform weekly document control activities, train others on quality procedures, ensure prompt and accurate communication with system users and reviewers, assist in conducting internal audits to assess and improve system effectiveness, and oversee external audits.
This position requires organization skills, great attention to detail, strong work ethic, personal initiative, problem solving, comfort with computers, and the ability to work well with the staff of multiple teams. Excel and/or database development skills are a definite plus.
