Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the operating room technician will assist in implementing nursing care of each client, guided by established policies and procedures of VRMC. Assists physicians and keeps them informed. Participates in orientation of new staff. Supports the goals of Vaughan Regional Medical Center and the Department of Nursing. Assist in the attainment of these goals and objectives. Maintains required competency and technical skill levels as required by the position. Participated in the establishment of standards of practice and Performance Improvement methods to monitor achievement. Must be willing to work 6:00am to 2:30pm or 6:30am to 3:00pm or 8:00am to 4:30pm. Monday through Friday. Must be able to rotate the call schedule including weekends.
Education: High School graduate. Graduate of School of OR Technology desirable. Certification in OR Technology desirable. BLS certification required (may be obtained within 30 days of hire date).
Experience: Willing to accept responsibility and accountability to his/her unit required. Position requires the knowledge and skills necessary to assist in providing nursing care appropriate to the patient population assigned.
Skills: Verbal ability to present information to the team leader. Ability to function in stressful situation. Willingness too cross-train and float between CPS and OR unit. Must demonstrate knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile technique, decontamination, sterilization operations, and related aspects of sterile processing.
Physical requirements: Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods, walk at least 2 hours per day, lift/carry 20 pounds, hear alarms and telephone rings, distinguish colors, perform repetitive tasks/motions, have good eye/hand/foot coordination, and have clear vision at 20 or more feet with vision corrective device.
