This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System, in a department that provides shared services to operations across UNC Health Care. This is not a State employed position.
The Senior Medical Director is an executive role within UNC Health Alliance and is accountable to the President and Chief Operating Officer. This executive is responsible for actively participating in and shaping UNC Health Alliance's strategy for clinical integration within the statewide integrated network and ACO and operates as the clinical leader for UNC Health Alliance Population Management Services. This key executive leader will provide the strategic and clinical thought leadership required to effectively grow and manage the network, interface with payor partners on alternative payment models and sustain an environment of ongoing clinical excellence, innovation and network provider engagement. The role will advise senior leadership through identifying market trends, providing clinical insights and best practices for opportunities identified through data and analytics, along with potential impacts and interventions. The Senior Medical Director will interface with key clinical leaders throughout UNC Health, promote the concepts of value based care, facilitate change management and collaboratively develop care delivery models focused on improving quality outcomes while reducing the total cost of care. They will provide thoughtful leadership for directly engaging with a diverse provider network comprised of employed and independent providers who experience variable challenges in delivering value based care and navigating a changing payment model landscape.
This position works closely with senior leadership to drive clinical innovation and develop new and evolving community partner engagements to effectively address the health needs of the population. They will work directly with Administrative Vice Presidents of Population Health Services, Business Development and Practice Quality and Innovation to collaboratively advance the mission and values of UNC Health Alliance. Through UNC Health Alliance Population Health Services and in partnership with the Vive President, the Senior Medical Director provides strategic insights and tactical development of core population health services such as case management, clinical pharmacy, integrated behavioral health and community engagement efforts including preferred skilled nursing facility networks, community palliative care and community paramedicine. This leader will Identify opportunities through data analysis for improvement in clinical services that will drive the success under Population Health programs and recommend new programs and services needed to meet population health goals and objectives.
In collaboration with the Vice President of Business Development, the Senior Medical Director interfaces with payer partners to provide a clinical perspective in developing alternative payment models designed to improve outcomes and reduce total cost of care. This leader will also interface directly with network providers and regional and local hospital leaders in advancing value based care initiatives. In collaboration with the Vice President of Practice Quality and Innovation, this leader will provide clinical insights into opportunities presented through data and analytics for clinical initiatives, network growth and provider engagement.
This executive will meet these expectations through direct oversight of UNCHA medical directors of care management and community engagement and through collaborative and effective partnership with UNCHA senior leadership team. This executive will also collaborate with leadership across UNC Health to embrace the shared vision and strategy to drive the development of a population health and value-based models. They will participate in UNC Health's enterprise governance of Population and Value Care and clinical leadership roundtables.
•MD/DO with advanced degrees in public health, health policy or healthcare management preferred
•North Carolina Medical License or equivalent licensure in another state and the qualifications to obtain licensure in North Carolina
•5 years of progressive clinical leadership experience, preferably in population health, preferably in large integrated health system(s) and academic medical center(s)
