    Job Description

    Assists in maintaining a smooth functioning unit under the direction of Nurse Manager or designee. Functions as a Patient Care Assistant and/or Patient Care Secretary as needed. Transcribes physician orders, answers telephone, greets and assists people arriving on unit, assists with admissions and discharges and maintains desk areas. Provides compassionate care to patients as well as performing various direct patient care activities under the supervision of a RN when functioning as PCA. Aids with procedures if needed. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Works under general supervision. High school diploma or equivalent. BLS is required. No experience necessary.

    Must be able to read, write, and perform simple arithmetic calculations. High School graduate or GED equivalent preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

    Work requires two to three months on-the-job training to acquire necessary familiarity with department policies, procedures and forms.
