Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Engineering and Sciences Hardware Engineering department, which supports all programs in the Huntsville, Alabama area, has openings for an Component Engineer or Principal Component Engineer. The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman's Defense Systems Hardware Engineering Team. The selected candidate will work in a dynamic people-focused environment where he/she will interact with production, program management, service providers, equipment suppliers, and customers. Primary responsibilities will include identification of components, sub-systems or systems that meet the requirements for use in critical mission and high reliability military environment applications. Additional duties will include maintenance of a standard list of components which includes evaluation of alternate components, assessment of component availability for cost and schedule and support of Global Supply Chain in procurement activities. The selected candidate should have a working knowledge of electrical and mechanical components utilized for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.
This requisition may be filled as a Component (Level 2) or Principal Component Engineer (Level 3).
Basic Qualifications for the Component Engineer: 2 Years with Bachelors in Science; 0 Years with Masters of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related STEM degree.
Basic Qualifications for the Principal Component Engineer : 5 Years experience with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.; Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Mechanical Engineering or related STEM degree.
Must be experienced in:
-Trade studies of components, sub-systems, or systems to evaluate suitability
-Development and maintenance of parts databases (and Approved Vendor Lists (AVLs) with alternate components)
-Creation of CAD component library models
-Part/Component entry into SAP or equivalent MRP system
-Engineering Bill of Material (BOM) creation in MRP Systems (SAP preferred)
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Visio
-Be able to obtain/maintain Secret Security Clearance
-Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and nontechnical personnel
-Periodically travel to customer sites in the continental United States.
-Have Active Secret Clearance
-Experience in component supplier quality assessment including source inspections, review of related documentation, and evaluating manufacturing workmanship.
-Experience with component qualification test and inspection
-Experience with reliability assessment of components and sub-systems
-Experience in supporting component and sub-system failure investigations and identification of root cause
-Experience in working in an autonomous work environment on complex projects
-Experience in working on business or engineering full life-cycle projects from project inception through system sustainment
