    Job Description

    This position is 4:00 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. on the South Campus (AFP) in Vernon, Texas. This schedule requires working rotating weekends and holidays. Occasional after hour work may be required.

    The Custodian I performs entry level custodian work such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, spray waxing, floor stripping, restroom cleaning, carpet care, cleaning offices, furniture, walls, windows, and trash disposal in the residential and administrative areas of the campus. The Custodian I provides and maintains a clean, safe and sanitary environment for the patients, staff and visitors. The Custodian I works harmoniously with other employees to generate a productive, cohesive and culturally diversified work environment. The Custodian I refrains from participation in discussions that create a negative or hostile environment, and establishes and maintains a positive rapport with and toward persons served. The Custodian I has no supervisory responsibility nor is any decision making required. The Custodian I has no financial responsibilities but is accountable for assigned property.

    Essential Job Functions:
    1. Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift, schedule, rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
    2. Floor Care: Floor care includes all sweeping, mopping, spray buffing, cleaning edges, corners, baseboards, stripping and waxing following the established housekeeping standard operating procedures located in the housekeeping manual. (20%)
    3. Carpet Care: Perform vacuuming, spot cleaning, carpet bonneting, and carpet extracting in accordance with housekeeping carpet care procedures. (5%)
    4. Restrooms/bath areas: Shall provide thorough disinfecting and cleaning of all restrooms, bath areas, fixtures, ceramic tile and floor areas in accordance with the housekeeping standard operating procedure. (20%)
    5. Water Fountains: Provide disinfecting and cleaning of all water fountains to ensure water fountains will not become a source for the spread of infection in accordance with standard operating procedures. (5%)
    6. Trash Disposal: Provide trash disposal and clean, disinfect and reline all trash receptacles. (5%)
    7. General Cleaning: Perform all routine scheduled duties such as cleaning windows, equipment, vents and lights, and dusting of office furniture according to standard operating procedures. (20%)
    8. Other Related Duties: Performs other duties as assigned. All other duties assigned by the supervisor will be done in a timely manner using proper standard operating procedures. (20%)
    9. Disaster Response and Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation: Actively participates and/or serves in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. (5%)

    Knowledge Skills Abilities:
    1. Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures related to infection control and safety regulations.
    2. Skill in the use of custodial materials and chemicals.
    3. Skill in the operation of vacuum cleaners, buffers, wet/dry pick-ups, automatic scrubbers, and related custodial equipment.
    4. Physical condition sufficient to perform a variety of manual tasks requiring strength and stamina such as lifting 45 lbs. or more, stooping and climbing 8 foot ladders.
    5. Must be flexible in working alternate areas as assigned.
    6. Basic computer skills: ability to learn computer programs to accomplish required training's, e-mail and checking time and leave balances.

    Registration or Licensure Requirements:

    Initial Selection Criteria:
    1. Available to work hours other than 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.
    2. Available to work Monday - Friday and Saturday - Sunday

    Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, and HHS OIG list of Excluded Individuals/Entities.     Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the posted minimum of the salary range.

All of these diseases are vaccine-preventable. As a result, state hospital policy requires employees be vaccinated according to their level of contact with patients.
