The Food Service Cook is responsible for preparing hot, palatable meals throughout The Assumption Village with guidance and direction from the Manager, Dining Services The Cook ensures that meals are prepared in accordance with all Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern The Village and that the highest standards of quality is upheld. The Cook reports directly to the Manager, Dining Services. ESSENTIAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Exhibits the ability to work independently to ensure the timely execution of meal times. Able to follow menus and prepare meals in accordance with the given recipe as well as direction from Management. Seeks a more home-like preparation method for prepared items. Meets with Food Service Supervisors to discuss any areas of concern and ways to improve the flavor, texture and/or eye appeal of the meal. Execute proper cooking schedules for given products to ensure proper cooking temperatures and time. Must be proactive in developing better methods and standards of procedures for ensuring the optimum result in preparation of food items. Must be aware of temperature and time dangers to ensure that products are heated and cooled to desired degrees within the specified time frames. Accurately develop the use of leftovers for assistance with keeping up with the departmental budget guidelines. In the absence of the Supervisor, acts in their place to promote the timely execution of meal times/goals. Effectively communicates with management to ensure minimal concerns from residents, staff and family members. Interprets food service policies and procedures to staff, residents, visitors and government agencies as required. OTHER JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Performs duties and responsibilities willingly. POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 1 year of experience in a large quantity operation. Must be able to read and write. Must have high school diploma or GED. Must be able to follow directions precisely, in order to ensure the proper results daily. Must be a leader with good morals and values. Knowledge of equipment use and standards. Must be able to read food thermometers and temperature gages accurately. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to bend, twist, pull and push continuously. Must be able to lift 50 pounds on occasion. Must be an effective contributor in the search for good overall results. Must have working knowledge of ovens, stoves and the dangers caused by each. Must be able to practice good sanitation standards in order to ensure proper time and temperature regulations. Must be able to become pro-active in the development of uses for leftovers.
