Performs complex clinical laboratory procedures and interprets and analyzes results. Analyzes test systems for accuracy and clinical value. Provides care to neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. Is a highly organized, self-motivated individual with strong technical, and communication abilities. Possesses strong customer service skills that are essential for this role. Must possess sufficient skills and initiative to function independently. Weekend coverage is required. Sufficient previous experience.Required Courses/Training -
Completion of a training program for lab technicians.RequiredCertification/Registration-
Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician/MLT or registry eligible. Key Job Duties, Responsibilities
Performs testing in all areas of laboratory as assigned. Actively coordinate with coworkers for coverage of all areas.
Reviews and evaluates patient test results making decisions on dilutions, repeats, or instrument performance. Be able to recognize abnormal, critical, or delta check failures and notify appropriate healthcare provider. When necessary consults with MT/MLS, Coordinator, or Supervisor.
Perform quality control and survey testing and insure controls and instrument checks are within acceptable limits before verifying patient and survey results. Based on QC results and instrument function check, perform basic QC trouble shooing. Consult when necessary with Medical Technologist, MLS, Coordinator, or Supervisor before proceeding with additional trouble shooting.*
Perform preventative maintenance and calibration as required and perform basic troubleshooting as needed. Consult as needed with instrument vendor hotline for additional troubleshooting.
Reviews pending results at appropriate intervals during and at end of shift. Enters results in computer accurately both manually and through instrument interfaces.*
Properly identifies patient. Draws blood from patient by venipuncture, heelstick, or capillary (depending on age of patient) observing strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis to prevent infection of patient and contamination of specimens. Properly labels specimens. Wears proper protective equipment while drawing specimens and follows OSHA standards.*
Report patient and unusual incidents using hospital incident report system. Assist in data collection and departmental performance improvement activities.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservices, and workshops and mandatory readings. Document in a timely manner. Attends meetings as required.
Maintains established department and hospital policies and procedures, objectives, qualityassurance/improvementprogram, TQM program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Assist with training orientation of new employees and students following statedobjectives/checklists.
Maintains confidentiality of patient and personnel information as per hospital policy
Maintains acceptableabsenteeism/tardinessrecord per hospital policy.
