Full-time, 72 hours per pay period (two weeks), 8 hours shifts with start times between 4:30a-9a Monday-Friday, rotating Saturdays
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for performing routine and advanced histology techniques, utilizing procedures varying in complexity, to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the pathologist. Assists in the processing and collection of cytologic specimens and the maintenance of histology and cytology files of specimens, blocks, slides and data. Performs maintenance and troubleshooting as well as assisting with student education and new employee orientation and training. Maybe required to function in other areas of the laboratory or pathology. Patients of all ages served. Supports and implements patient safety and other safety practices as appropriate. Supports and demonstrates Family Centered Care principles when interacting with patients and their families and with co-workers.
Bachelor's Degree Science related field from an accredited college/university or
Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program or
Bachelor's Degree and one-year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory or
60 semester hours from an accredited institution that includes 24 semester hours of science (at least 6 chemistries and 6 biology) and one-year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
ASCP-BOC certified within 6 months with first exam completed within 3 months of hire, with certification verified within six weeks of exam. 6 months Required
Recent experience in histology and/or cytology preferred. A CT (ASCP) to be hired for this position must have at least one-year full-time experience as a cytotech and additional experience in histology preferred.
