    The position of Market Strategy Manager is part of the Market Strategy department at the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan. The Market Strategy Manager provides oversight and / or leads major projects that inform the growth and market planning essential to KP achieving its revenue, membership and margin goals. Market Strategy Managers provide strategic thinking and analytical and leadership skills that enable project teams to: Identify business issues, opportunities, and risks; Design and execute analytics for studying business issues (market research, scenario planning, business performance, forecasting, market share, profitability, etc.). Deliver technical and content expertise in competitive intelligence, financial analysis and market research. Vet findings and make formal recommendations to senior levels of KP leadership. Review and approve strategic recommendations. Incumbents would manage teams whose work includes forecasting membership, interpreting market research findings, distilling competitive intelligence and insights, and developing strategies to achieve membership, revenue and margin goals. The Market Strategy Manager supervises one or more consultants and / or analysts.

    Essential Responsibilities:
  • Leads multiple market strategy projects and/or workgroups concurrently.
  • Contributes to overall department objectives/goals based on global knowledge of industry and organizational strategic issues.
  • Proactively identifies key business/segment issues.
  • Creates justification and makes recommendations/decisions on allocation of Market Strategy resources.
  • Provides oversight, coaching and management to individual contributors (e.g. Analysts, Data Consultants, and Market Strategy Consultants).
  • Provides management oversight and serves as subject matter/technical expert on multiple complex business processes (including rate-setting, membership forecasting, strategy development, and database architecture).
  • Presents key strategic findings & recommendations to Health Plan and PMG senior leadership.
  • Hires, assesses, coaches and develops staff; provides consistent orientation; creates and models a coaching culture that supports continuous career growth and development at all levels.
  • Models the competencies of a superior manager; develops career plans.
  • Provides operational management. Monitors organization/business performance metrics and acts when needed.
  • Develops a culture of collaboration and accountability between sales, account management, pricing and other key internal partners.
  • Implements continuous quality improvement programs.
  • May involve travel of up to 20% depending on project and role assigned.

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, economics, mathematics, statistics or four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

    Additional Requirements:
  • Proven ability to manage and develop resources.
  • Thorough knowledge of membership, rates, financial, economic and competitive data.
  • Regularly contributes to the development of new market strategy concepts, techniques, and standards.
  • Considered functional expert in market strategy.
  • Highly skilled in MS Office programs; knowledge of MS Access and/or other databases is a plus.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Health care experience preferred.
  • Consulting experience preferred.
  • Master's degree in business, economics, mathematics, statistics or related field preferred.
