    Job Description

    RESPONSIBLE FOR:

    The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients. He/she functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice, coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.


    Qualifications :

    The patient population primarily consists of a wide variety of General Surgery patients which include, but are not limited to, amputations, appendectomies, bowel resections, ostomy creations and/or reversals. We also serve as an overflow for Medical patient's as well, when appropriate. 2 East has remote tele on the unit which allows us to care for stable patients requiring cardiac monitoring. The unit also has with two bariatric rooms. These rooms are equipped with bariatric furniture and lifts built into the ceiling that can accommodate up to 1000 lbs. Nurse-patient ration 1:5/6 AM ± PCT to patient-ratio 1: 10/ + AM & PM




    MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

    Graduate of a nursing program



    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:



    New Graduates of a nursing program eligible



    MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:



    Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License.

    BLS certification required.



    ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:



    For PRN positions: One year of nursing experience in a hospital setting preferred

    Bachelor's degree preferred

    Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable (see addendum)

    Nursing Experience in Hospital Setting Preferred

    Emergency Department:



    Additional Required Certifications:

    ACLS and PALS Certification - (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)



    Surgical Services:



    Additional Required Certifications:

    PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU - ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)



    Women's Services:



    Additional Required Certifications:

    Labor and Delivery-ACLS Certification - (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date) NRP by the end of orientation period

    Mother/Baby- NRP by the end of orientation period

    NICU- NRP by the end of orientation period

    NAT (Newborn Admission Team)- NRP by the end of orientation period

    Nursery- NRP by the end of orientation period



    Designated Stroke: ED, Critical Care & Medical/Surgical Units



    Knowledgeable in assessment, planning, treatment and evaluation of patients experiencing stroke or stroke-like symptoms

    Provides appropriate stroke related education and Stroke Education Booklet to patients and/or Family/caregiver with discussion on risk factor reduction

    Knowledgeable in stroke performance measures and relationship to patient outcomes

    Communicates with the multidisciplinary team and assists with coordination of care of the stroke/TIA patient

    Completes required 4 hours of stroke related education annually and demonstrates competency with performing the MEND and NIHSS exams
