    Job Description

    Position Overview:


    The Clinical Therapist provides crisis intervention, therapy, referrals, and discharge planning for patients and their families, ranging in age from child to adult. Assesses patient and family psychosocial needs; provides individual, family and group therapy based on clinical need.This includes psychosocial assessments, clinical formulations, and case management.Serves as an expert and liaison to community resources. Provides coordination of complex discharge planning needs and referrals to appropriate support services. Achieves a timely, effective, coordinated discharge plan by involving other members of the health care team. Works closely with Clinical Reviewers to achieve the highest quality care and service and the best possible outcomes in a cost-effective manner.Performs other duties as assigned. Acts as a clinical leader in milieu, in collaboration with psychiatrist, patient care and support services staff.Preforms other duties as assigned.

    Participates as Clinical Therapist and member of multidisciplinary team. Reports to the Social Services Manager. Obtains clinical supervision from the Social Services Manager, physician, psychologist and Direct of Patient Care.



    Master's Degree in an accredited Behavioral Health program that prepares students for independent licensure, strong clinical psychosocial skills with ability to conceptualize clinical situations and demonstrate application of theory appropriate to specific age groups. Professional Hawaii license to practice, LSW or LCSW is required; LCSW preferred.

    For LSW: The incumbent has 90 days to obtain LCSW once they become eligible to sit for LCSW examination. The incumbent shall have 90 days to obtain State licensure in the State of Hawaii after hire date. New graduates will be allowed up to two years to complete the required 3000 hours of post master's clinical social work experience under supervision to obtain the required licensure.


    Clinical experience is required (e.g. practicum placement and/or postgraduate experience). Demonstrated experience with individual, family and group therapy as a Clinician; in a hospital setting preferred.


    Knowledge of current Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM V), family system theories, various effective treatment modalities, specifically Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and their effective application for acute emotional psychiatric disorders. Experience providing evidence based trauma recovery treatment (CPT, PE, CBCT, EMDR) is preferred.

    Knowledge of available community resources and legal issues relating to patient care and social work. Familiarity with processes and functions of case management and discharge planning and regulatory agency requirements (e.g. DOH, TJC, CMS etc.). Knowledge of the principles of adult education, effective curriculum design, including appropriate content based on the age of the population served. Familiarity with Recovery and Trauma Informed evidence based care philosophies as required.

    Specials Skills/Equipment:

    Interpersonal and communication skills. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills

    Time management skills. Ability to facilitate Group Therapy sessions. Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, applications.
