The Vehicle Driver I is responsible for providing transportation for individuals both on and off campus. Tram Driver transports individuals on scheduled basis; follows schedules and ensures the individuals' safety and comfort during all loading, unloading, and transports. On infrequent basis provides transport off campus to scheduled appointments and provide direct care assistance in Employment Services. The Tram Driver is responsible for supervising individuals with intellectual disabilities that assist them on the tram. The Tram Driver is under the supervision of the Employment Service's Equipment and Materials Manager.
Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Ensures the safe loading, unloading, and transporting of all passengers at all times. Operates all equipment associated with the transportation system. Transports passengers on scheduled and non-scheduled basis as requested. Assists supervisor with ensuring assigned vehicles receives preventive maintenance as scheduled. Communicates with supervisor orally and in writing information that is significant to the efficient operation of the transportation system. Provide proper escort and physical assistance for persons served. Provide behavior intervention that involves administering behavior intervention programs and intervening to prevent injury to residents and employees. Document necessary information on the individuals in their care in Care Tracker/IRIS
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of safe operation of motor vehicle.
Knowledge of safe passenger loading and unloading methods.
Knowledge of the safe operation of wheelchair lifts.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to work without constant supervision; to make sound decisions during a crisis situation; to maintain accurate records.
Ability to interact positively with intellectually disabled individuals.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Must possess valid Texas driver's license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
Initial Selection Criteria:
Experience driving passenger vehicle.
Experience working with people with disabilities.
Ability to read and interpret printed schedule preferred.
Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Employees must be able to work rotating work patterns which include working on some weekends. All new employees must be able to attend orientation during the first three weeks of employment on an 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday schedule.
