    We are seeking a Composites Engineer to join our Undersea Systems team in Annapolis, Maryland. The Composites Engineer will design and create recommendations for material implementations. A qualified candidate will be able to perform analysis in both approximate and ply by ply layup, in addition to using Finite Element Analysis to predict behavior of composite joints. Experience with through thickness analysis is desirable, as is the ability to design and execute composite testing. The Composites Engineer will work with designers and fabricators to perform testing via application of standard tests to structural details (acceleration, acoustic testing) and design the experiments for the tests. This will require knowledge of composite design principles and a working knowledge of how materials behave/degrade under environmental conditions

    The successful candidate will have background in structural analysis and have proficiency in common computer-based structural analysis software (FEMAP, NASTRAN, ANSYS) and analytical techniques (physical modeling, bolted joint analysis, stress/strain determinations). In addition to analytical skills the successful candidate will be able to specify composite materials on a drawing and include instructions on how to use multiple materials together in various configurations. This individual must have good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast paced environment.

    Qualifications :

    This requisition may be filled at either a Principal or Sr. Principal level.

    Basic Qualifications for a Principal Composites Engineer:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Marine Engineering or a related discipline and 5+ years' of related experience; 3+ years' of experience with a MS; 0 years' of experience required with a Ph.D
    • Proficiency with analytical techniques including: basic structural analysis and FEA analysis.
    • Proficiency with structural analysis tools (including MathCAD, MatLab, FEMAP, Patran, ANSYS Workbench (or other pre/post processors), Nastran/ANSYS (or other FEA solvers).
    • All applicants must be able to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph
    Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Composites Engineer:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Marine Engineering or a related discipline and 9+ years' of related experience; 7+ years' of experience with a MS; 4+ years' of experience with a PhD
    • Proficiency with analytical techniques including: basic structural analysis and FEA analysis.
    • Proficiency with structural analysis tools (including MathCAD, MatLab, FEMAP, Patran, ANSYS Workbench (or other pre/post processors), Nastran/ANSYS (or other FEA solvers).
    • All applicants must be able to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Moderate proficiency in common engineering /office tools (including 3D CAD programs such as NX, MS Office).
    • Underwater structural analysis experience; autonomous underwater vehicle analysis experience; mechanism design
