The Director of Behavioral Health Services is hired by and directly accountable to the Assistant Director for Programs. This position is required to complete complex tasks and make varied decisions within broad parameters and with minimal supervision. The Director of Behavioral Health Services provides professional supervision and consultation for all staff psychologists, behavior analysts, counselors, and other staff in the Behavioral Health Services Department. The Director of Behavioral Health Services is responsible for ongoing performance evaluation of staff psychologists, behavior analysts, counselors and other staff in the Behavioral Health Services Department. The Director of Behavioral Health Services reviews and coordinates the approval process for services provided by the Behavioral Health Services Department, including positive behavior support plans, psychiatric support plans, counseling plans, and restraint plans. The Director of Behavioral Health Services systematically evaluates the consistent implementation of plans provided by the Department, through personal observation, staff interviews, and review of documentation. He/she works with unit directors, behavioral health services staff, and other disciplines to facilitate effective program implementation. The Director of Behavioral Health Services provides for professional development of behavioral health staff, including applied behavior analysis, learning principles, behavior change techniques, positive behavior support, treatment and data integrity measures, behavior assessment, skill acquisition planning, the interaction effects of psychotropic medication and behavior, evidenced-based counseling, and contemporary psychological issues to positively impact service delivery. The Director of Behavioral Health Services is responsible for maintaining knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and departmental and agency policy and for developing systems and procedures to meet the standards and requirements therein. The Director of Behavioral Health Services chairs the Behavior Support Committee and coordinates activities with other discipline heads and administrative staff to facilitate service delivery and evaluation. The Director of Behavioral Health Services directly supervises assigned clerical support staff and develops and maintains assigned budgetary responsibilities relevant to behavioral health services. Some travel is required and work schedule varies upon request or as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
2. Ensures quality and effectiveness of plans produced by the Department, include behavior support plans, psychiatric support plans, counseling plans, and skill acquisition
3. Provides professional supervision and consultation to assigned staff to ensure effective performance.
4. Evaluates behavioral health services and develops remedial plans as needed to address needs and deficiencies to ensure compliance with relevant laws, standards, and policies.
5. Ensures ongoing training as needed to facilitate service delivery and professional growth.
6. Ensures coordination of behavioral health services with other areas throughout the facility to facilitate best practices, ensure uniformity of procedures, and to support system values and mission.
7. Participates in the joint selection and orientation of assigned staff to ensure appropriate screening, hiring, and effective selection and orientation.
8. Performs special assignments at the request of the Assistant Director for Programs.
9. Maintains current knowledge in relevant professional areas.
10. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

• Knowledge and skills in administering all aspects of the delivery of behavioral health services, including psychological, counseling, and applied behavioral analysis services to persons with developmental disabilities. This requires extensive knowledge of behavior analysis and the ability to teach and implement these principles.

• Knowledge regarding applicable laws, regulations, and departmental and agency policy.
• Knowledge and skills in the administration of standardized evaluations, including assessments of intelligence and adaptive behavior.
• Knowledge and skills in applied behavior analysis and development of behavior support plans.
• Knowledge regarding medications used to assist with positive behavior supports and systems to track treatment effectiveness.
• Demonstrated ability to train staff in programming and related psychological/behavioral areas.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise clinical and clerical staff.
• Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and make varied decisions within broad guidelines/parameters.
• Advanced writing skills in developing technical reports, research proposals, and other relevant documents.
• Demonstrated leadership skills in motivating staff and effectively implementing program changes.
• Knowledge and skills in use of personal computers and relevant software.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Certification as a Behavior Analyst by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board is preferred. If not Board Certified at the time of employment, must be eligible to pursue board certification upon hire and must attain certification within three years of hire date.
Initial Selection Criteria:
1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field required.
2. At least two years postgraduate experience in service provision to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
3. Knowledge and skills in applied behavior analysis and behavior support plan development, implementation, and evaluation.
4. Certification as a Behavior Analyst by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board is preferred. If not Board Certified at the time of employment, must be eligible to pursue board certification upon hire and must attain certification within three years of hire date.
